sounds like the UPS Gorillas got to you
u shaped? what did the package look like:confused:
They can cut the stuff so they don't have to fold it for shipping..:footinmou JUST KIDDING DAVE But u shaped ?? come on..

If there was o1 on the order then yup....they don't grind it..
and that leaves them to get it else where.
Unless Terry was on vacation you should have been able to talk to him fairly soon.
********U shaped?? LMAO :D :D

Well, okay, so it was a pretty flat "U"... I don't exaggerate much ... or very often ... :D

And yeah, it was O1 and 440C.

Dang Dave, that's not good! I've ordered from Admiral twice so far. The first time I split an order with a friend of mine. The woman I spoke to on the phone wasn't the most pleasant person around but she wasn't actively hostile either. I figure you're just going to run into those people. Shipping was a little higher because we ordered some 6" wide 15n20 which of course won't fit into the shipping tubes. The L6 was bowed which bothered me at the time because I was making knives mainly by stock removal, but I was in the process of learning to forge.

I just ordered again recently and spoke to a nice young man, who's name I forget right now. Recieved the shipment with no hitch and I expected the steel to not be straight, but I'm foging with it now anyway so it's no big deal. My main beef is the amount of copper in the 1084, but that's not Admiral's fault, and hey, 1084 won't be available anymore anyway. They really aren't geared up to provide nice clean perfectly straight small stock to knifemakers despite the fact that they have a knifemaker's steel division. However if I ordered some precision ground stuff from them and it came all bent up I'd be cranked too!

Probably repeating what other people said, but I bought most of my steel from Admiral, and they always sent me longer lengths. I would get several feet of free steel, and I never had a problem with their service. It had a bit of minor bend sometimes, but just bend it back and flatten it on the sander. No complaints with Admiral Steel. They are a top notch outfit in my opinion, and Terry is always quick to respond to my questions and needs.

Most of their 440C is sheared from a sheet though, so it tends to not look quite as nice as some of the precision ground or even the hot rolled stuff. Never really bugged me though... I just grind it into dust anyway. :D
