Hey guys,

I am looking to get into knife-making as a hobby. I think knives would make great gifts for family members (almost everybody hunts) and friends. Anyway, I don't really have the funds to buy a decent grinder as I'm a college student with a family of 4 to provide for as well. Anyway, I was wondering if this trade would be feasible or if you would recommend to hold off for now.

As I mentioned, I really can't afford a nice grinder but I do have a SigPro 2022 9mm pistol that I've only put about 100 rounds through and I have about 100 rounds along with an Italian Leather holster.

Do you guys think that I could trade this for a grinder? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I agree with the above , becides, a grinder will cost way more than the pistol. Oh yeah, you are gonna need belts too.

If you're just doing this as a hobby there's no need for a super-grinder like a KMG. The craftsman 2x42 is pretty good and costs between $100 and $130. Your gun is probably worth more than that, and you can make a really nice knife with the craftsman even though it runs too fast. It isn't ideal, but that's what i and my brother both use with reasonable effectiveness. Also, you could use files to make very nice knives. It takes longer though, and I've only done it once because of that.

He is right. I use the 2x42 and have made a bunch of knives with it. It is fast, but it is very possible to do.

Y'all are right of course about the craftsman --- I assumed he was speaking about a better grade grinder .....
