Hi all,

Should I be worried about this? Is it possible for pitting to spread?

Hard to know from pics if it's pitting from corrosion or just imperfections in the steel from the factory. I've seen both. Was there any rust in or around the pitting when it arrived?

I'd go to the doctor immediately. One shot of penicillin will clear it but untreated it can cause severe deformities and even death!

That is definitely outside the range of a beauty mark. I would think if you sent it in they would replace the blade if not the entire knife.

If that is brand new out of the box from a dealer I would contact them. I don't think it is much to worry about but it is still not normal looking for a brand new knife right out of the box. I would think most places would replace it for you if they have more in stock.

What he said!

And No, the pitting won't spread.

Also, I think ZT might like to know about it too. That kind of pitting isn't normal and to me indicates a blade that probably shouldn't have passed initial quality checks.

KAI is a great company. If the dealer doesn't make it right, the manufacturer should.

Return it to the dealer for an inspected replacement without such issue or any other issues.

Many thanks everyone - your input is very much appreciated. I'll be exchanging it.

kinda looks like a metal forming/tooling defects/casting defect deal...i'm using poorly terminology but looks like defects in the mold.....once again poor terminology but i don't think it's corrosion pitting.......curious if one of the metal super fellows would chime in and explain what they see.......

i'd send it back.
