I'll be in the Cranberry/Robinson area in a few weeks. Are there any shops I should check out?

Paul

I just checked the Pittsburgh yellow pages and the only listing for any kind of specialty knife shop is "Cutlery Plus" in Monroeville Mall, which is way out east of town and about 30 miles from where you will be. You could take the PA Turnpike east from the Rt 19 interchange in Cranberry to the Monroeville, Rt 22 exit and take Business Rt 22 west a couple of miles to the Mall. I'm not sure it's worth the trip but that's all there is.

There is a Gander Mountain store near Robinson Town Center which is the best knife source I know of in the immediate area.

I, too am only aware of the Cutlery Plus that is in the Monroeville Mall. Their prices are list and the people behind the counter are not knife-knowledgeable. They did have some older discontinued Al Mar and Benchmade models.

I haven't been there in a while. Sometimes there is a knife dealer at the gun shows with a decent selection. But I haven't been to any of those in the last couple of years.

Thanks guys. I've been to Cutlery Plus. I stop in whenever I'm in Monroeville just for laughs. At least there is a Gander Mountain in Robinson. Not much in the knife line, but they have lots of other cool stuff.

Paul

The Dick's in Robinson Town center carries SOG, Spyderco, and Buck knives. I bought a SOG Flash II there last summer. I recall they carry Kersaw models, also.

Well, I'm kinda sad to hear no good knife store around Pittsburgh -- although I live in Texas, my fiancee' lives about 80 miles north of there (near Butler). I'm up there once or twice a month.

Here in Fort Worth there is a store called House of Blades, which has an incredible selection; however, you pay twice the price.

I've found a few items there though that I couldn't find elsewhere -- e.g. vintage Al Mar.

I'm currently trying to figure out that guys info. Do you happen to know his name/business info?

There is a guy who goes to the monroeville gun shows. He edc's a Kirby Lambert and he knows his stuff. Don't know his name but a show is coming up here soon.

A little off topic but the Monroeville Mall is where they filmed the original Dawn of the Dead. I'm pretty sure the graveyard from Night of the Living Dead is somewhere near by. To me it would be worth the trip just to check those out and get to fondle some knives in person, even if the people working the counter have no idea what they're doing.

That cutlery store in the mall is long gone.

Woops, didn't realize this was the "thread of the living dead", back from 2004 :D

I was just looking into the monroeville mall a few weeks ago because there is a drive in movie theater near by that occasionally has all night monster movie marathons. I planned on making a trip next time they do one.

Pittsburgh had Cutlery World stores in Ross Park, Monroeville, & Century 3 Malls in the 80's and 90's. Bought one of my first Spydercos in the Monroeville store in the mid 90's. All gone now, closest knife case I'm aware of is the Cabella's in WV and I think there is a Gander Mountain in West Mifflin.

Wow I came across this thread a few months ago when I was doing a google search for Pittsburgh cutlery stores. Too bad it wasn't updated then because I drove to Monroeville Mall only to find out it was closed. I used to go to the one in Ross Park Mall and Monroeville all the time.

A few weeks ago I made a post with his very question. Here is the thread.

There is also a store in Lower Burrel called Burrel Custom Cutlery. I haven't been there yet but when I called the number it said they were on the web under acutabovecustomcutlery.

BTW... I'm fairly certain that the graveyard scene was filmed in Butler PA.

The graveyard scene in the original film, Night of The Living Dead was filmed in a graveyard in Evans City, Butler Co.

The last time I went into a Gander Mountain store, they no longer carried quality stuff like BM's, Spyderco, and Surefire lights. looks like they went the cheap route.

There are two dealers that are usually at the Monroeville gunshow with Kershaw, BM, Spyderco all at msrp. The one guy is very nice and has some customs too. Blind Horse usually comes to Monroeville too. Cool guys and they always have lots of knives. So does old hundred Collectibles/Bob Andrews if you like GEC's. Chestnut Ridge is usually at the mills show and the Washington show. Just saw him this past weekend at Washington.

Were you at the Washington gunshow? I was there saturday. Picked up my blue denim conductor from Bob at Old Hundred. Whatcha buy?

I was there on Sunday and I bought absolutely nothing. The selection of knives was not all that good and the few that I liked were way overpriced. I was also looking for some pistol magazine cordora storage pouches to store my knives in and I couldn't find any of those either. Plus I didn't see a single airgun anywhere.

It's a good show for traditionals and old pocket knives. Did you visit all five buildings? I saw some overpriced AG's, nothing special. I will be hitting Monroeville at the end of the month.

Here's my prize:
