I am rescaling my mini trapper the pivot pin is 3/32 I had bought some stainless rod from my local Ace hardware but now I am concerned It may not peen well.
Do you think it will work ? I also have some brass rod in 3/32. Which should I use?

bolsters are most likely nickle silver so you would need nickle silver pin stock to match.

I wouldn't try random stainless. Most of it peens like absolute shit, and it's liable to be some 300 series that's tough to peen, work hardens, and splinters very quickly.

Brass will peen easily, but as Stan said, if they were originally silver colored, it's likely nickel silver, which you can get online easily, and will peen very easily also.

I am sure the bolsters are Nickle Silver and I don't care about matching it as it is my personal knife. I am going to go with Brass unless someone convinces me it is a bad idea. I used it on one I built years ago and had no problem altho it was 1/8 and not the 3/32 this one requires.

Compressing the spring to get the pivot pin in is giving me some problems. But I think I have a solution which I will try tomorrow. It has been years since I did my last one and I have forgotten what I thought I knew.:)

Put about 1-1/2" piece of stock in a hand drill and sharpen about 3/4" of it to a point and then just push it through.
