Pivot screw wont tighten down?

The pivot screw on my knife is kinda dinged up in that if I try to tighten it it just rotates in place, what has happened here? Is there anyway to fix it short of sending it back to the manufacture? I really don't want to do that because I'm from Canada and sending it back would mean about $20 on my end. which could be about half the price of what I paid for the knife itself.

If it is spinning then you need to somehow stop the back side from turning. Most knives have a place for a wrench on both sides of the pivot screw. That or one side is in a recess that won't allow it to turn. Have you put a wrench in both sides to hold one in place while you unscrew the other one?

Is it something more than that? If so can you give a better description and tell us which knife or maybe even post a picture?

It's a Spyderco Byrd Cara cara. Yes you could blame me for buying a cheaper designed knife but I expect the pivot screw to at least be workable.
Anyways here's pics.

Pics were too big to post directly.

When I turn it, it doesn't appear to spin the other side of the screw nesting. So I have no idea whats going on. As you can see I can remove the pivot screw.

So the one side screws in and then keeps spinning without getting tight and the other side definitely does not spin with it? If that is the case then I would say the female end (the 'nut') is stripped. When you look at the pivot screw do the threads look OK? Do you see any metal bits stuck in the threads? Can you get the 'nut' part to come out and look into it at the threads?

That is pretty strange and I would think it would take quite a bit of force to strip either side. If you can get both sides out then maybe you can screw it in with your fingers and see if it keeps spinning outside of the knife. If you can figure out which piece is messed up maybe you can take it to a fastener store in town and see if they might have something that could be a replacement. I doubt it but worth a try. If you do all that and it is broken then I guess your only option is sending it to Spyderco.

Let us know if you figure anything out.

Sounds stripped, i.e. stripped threads.

See if you can remove the screw.
