Hi All

Just want to share some pictures of my recently acquired PK.
Length is 12" and spine thickness at the bolster is 1/4". The handle is a bit too short. With one thumb over the bolster, the buttcap makes chopping motion a bit uncomfortable. I may lengthen the handle a little in future.

The above shows the PK in it's brand new state and after having been lemon etched. This is Bura's new symbol combination (as far as I know).

The darkest zone doesn't quite reach the tip, but the lighter zone above it extends to about 3/16" behind the tip. I wonder if that is also hardened.

A beautiful piece of work.

Cheers
Eric

edit: pics too small...accidentally pressed "submit"...

looking good, thanks for sharing!

Also, I just gave in and sent an email asking about villager PKs. I can't stand waiting to shark one anymore, I want one to get here for christmas. :)

How come my lemon etch not like yours ?

Mine turned out blochy and mottled .

I usually just apply the lemon on both sides evenly. It will look mottled initially, but in my (inextensive) experience, the darkend areas will more or less even out with continued application.

Because of the banding between darker and lighter areas, I was going to call this "leopard etch" or "leopard PK" :)

Ya, they disappear PDQ, don't they. I was really lucky to get this one.

Good speed with snagging the next one.

:D

 :D

I'm now on the lookout for a villager one with (hopefully) thicker spine and longer handle.

Are you cleaning the blade up with some rubbing alcohol before you etch it, Astro? That will help, I think. I've tried "shortcutting" when I etch and I can never get a good result without an alcohol wipe first.

came back to look at the pics since Yangdu mailed me back saying she's out of stock on villager PKs at the moment. -sigh-

Be careful using drug store "rubbing" alcohol to de-grease. Some contain dissolved lanolin to keep skin from drying out. Read the label first. A better bet is alcohol (methanol) or lacquer thinner (acetone, mainly) from the hardware or paint store. Dawn dishwashing detergent and very hot water does a decent job in a pinch - believe it or not :D
