I was wondering how strong the ball lock is. I'm thinking of getting the trainer for escrima class to train blade awareness and targeting the hand. But, i'm sure the rattan stick may find the spine of the blade (RGEI) from time to time.

Hi Derek,

Try it. It should be strong enough. It is an impact blow rather than a steady pressure so strength might not be an issue. If you have a problem, let me know.

frame lock knives have failed me in kali class ( i have CAREFULLY made my own trainers out of production live blades) the bearing lock seems sturdy...and i personally know of a high ranking guy that will endorse their quailty ( for what ever that is worth)

Any lock will fail after it's been beat on enough. Locks are tiny bits of close tolerance steel parts carefully fitted together.

However, if real world study is important, then trainers are something that will be used eventually up and replaced. Some just last longer than others.

We made special delica trainers for a while for an excellent artist and trainer in the Northwest. He trained and taught enough that he could count how long the trainer's locks would hold up before they failed and had to be replaced.
