hi all,

still new to the forum. just wondering if anyone know a good place, or knife store around San Jose. the last few pocket knives i picked up were from OSH.

but i'm looking for a better selection.

i know there used to be a Remington store at the Gilroy outlet, Great Mall, and a some blade store??? at Oakridge mall. dunno if they're still there.

on yelp.com i found King of knives, but don't see any reviews for it, so dunno if it even exists.

any trusted sites?

thanks in advance!

right on! thanks!

ever heard of King of Knives? it's supposedly located by Oakridge Mall

how are the prices at Stevens Creek Surplus?

sweet! i couldn't figure out how to google search for this ahahaha...thanks again ladies/fellas.

pls feel free to add more locations if possible

thanks again

Steven's Creek Surplus on Steven's Creek has a lot of knives.

There's Armor-Geddon at Valco in Cupertino.

There's Williams in the Cambrian Plaza.

All but Steven's Creek Surplus sell at MSRP, and even they are still pretty expensive. King of Knives has gone out of business in the US, I believe (the one at Oakridge closed a long time ago.) You wouldn't want to buy from them anyway; I looked at their website a couple weeks ago, and they sell at about 2-3x MSRP (the Leatherman Blast, for example, they sell at $150 whereas I got mine at Fry's for $50; Spyderco Delica they sell for about $180 whereas I got mine online for $50, and MSRP is $90.) There used to be an Armor-Geddon and a John T's at Oakridge, but they've both closed down.

When I'm in San Jose, I go to Stevens Creek Surplus. It's a good place to play with knives to see if you really want to buy them. It's fairly difficult to find a brick and mortar that can actually compete with online stores however. Your personal rules will determine if you think it's ethical to play with knives in a store just to buy them online. I personally just can't justify the 50%+ mark up found in most brick and mortar stores.

If you're ever in San Francisco, definitely check out TAD Gear. They're competitively priced with many of their items, plus they have their own brand which had a world wide following and they get customs in there frequently. In Pier 39 there's We Be Knives. They have a fairly large selection of production knives. They've lied and attempted to miseducate me on knives before, so I have no problem playing with the knives there only to buy online.

im in the bay area too, been to steven's creek and we be knives. Wish there was a place that carried fallkniven, and bark river.

Stevens Creek Surplus has a decent collection of Benchmades, SAKS, and Multitools but they are VERY pricey. If you buy a knife and later check the prices online, you're probably going to experience buyer's remorse...unless you've got $$ to burn. They have a killer selection of hunting and fishing gear as well, but again quite high. Most of the REI stores carry a few decent blades i.e. BM, Spyderco, but it's pretty much the same deal - MSRP or more.

Mountain View Surplus has some serious ghetto-tactical made in China ninja knives if you're into that. I fondled a some K-Bars, and large Ontario fixed blades (prices slightly better and I think negotiable). Tons of paracord there too (every color under the sun). Both the Surplus stores mentioned are tons of fun and you might find something you want to buy, but it probably won't be a knife. Good luck and report back if you find a good place with some deals, I'm in SJ too and would love to give my business to a local shop. Though our near 10% sales tax is usually enough to keep me shopping online.

i'm actually shopping for some Benchmade. I'm new to the knife scene...so been doing as much reading as i can.

will probably be heading to SC surp tomorrow =)

i'll try to do some price checks when i'm there...i bought a buck nighthawk and SOG Seal Team Elite on Amazon...pretty good deal, i think..ahaha.

nighthawk was about ~50 and the SOG was a lil less than ~90. anyone have experience buying through amazon?

I've bought a knife on President's day at Stevens creek where they had an additional 15% markdown from their prices. This put the mini-grip I bought right in the same neighborhood as online prices. It's a good place to try out knives though before you buy, but online will always be cheaper.

I've bought some knives from Amazon, if you know what you are looking for you can get some good prices, although the knives come from many different sources seemingly.

sweet, i'll check out Castello sometimes, maybe do some price matching there =)

how about websites? any trusted websites to purchase from? so far i've only purchased those 2 knives (buck nighthawk and SOG SE-37) on amazon.com.

keep 'em comin' ladies/fellas.

So...i went to SC surp and Armor-Geddon. picked up a BM 943SBK. for a fair price (~xxx OTD), at SC Surp. But i actually got a better deal at AG. The very nice lady there, said she's willing to match prices...did me a lil better too =)

they didn't have what i wanted in stock so she ordered it...got some prices better than what i googled online.

picked up BM 943 and BM 556S-PNK at AG for ~xxx

decided, although i paid more at SC surp for the BM 943SBK, that i would keep it, since i had a good 1st time experience, the gentleman who helped was coo too.

what do ya'll think bout the price i paid? too much? decent deal? or heck of a deal? ahahaha

thanks again for all ya'll help.
