Place your buying your knives from?

Well, I don't want to name specific sites, but I basically look around for who has the best price, making sort of a mental list, then compare that to my feeling as to who is good and who isn't. I will tend to buy from forum members who have stores before I would buy from some random site, but I couldn't justify spending twice as much, which is why I also look at the prices.

Knives Plus out of Texas! No web site but large catalog with lots and lots of knives at real low prices! 1-800-687-6202.

I usually buy most of my production knives through a distributor, but ones they don't sell or are out of, I will use Knife Plus (above).

As far as internet knife dealers, there are too many good ones. Usually I will start with the lowest prices and work from there if I decide to purchase through one of these companies. There is one internet knife dealer I won't even give the time a day to anymore, because I can never get through to them via phone and they don't even stock most of the knives they advertize for sale. They do claim to have the lowest prices anywhere, but what good is it if you can't get through to them or they don't have it in stock! I will refraim from mentioning their name though, most know what company I am talking about anyway!

You can also check out the link section at BladeForums.com main home page. There it will list many many many makers, dealers, manufactures, and distributors on the web!

-- Brian has given me a lot of good service. I buy from him the most. Bought a 730 Ares from him last month or so, many butterfly knives, a Lansky kit, and soon a couple more Benchmades.

-- Mark is really fast with responding to my e-mails. Good service. Getting a CQC-7B from them.

And I am also buying a CRKT Stiff KISS from Mike Payne. He's pretty fast with his e-mails too.

I've recently been buying a number of custom and semi-custom knives from Blade Art and I can highly recommend them. http://www.bladeart.com/
They also have swords and daggers based in different historical periods, but I haven't bought any of them.

Mark at MJS, is great, he has gone out of his way for me on a couple of purchases of some not to easy to find items. I haven't been able to do any customs through him as yet, but I look forward to it soon. I'm sure the service will be as good as with the production knives.

If I cant find what I want for sale used, or trade for a new one, I'll give Mark at MJS a call.
He has my information on hand and all I got to do is name the product. Band 3-4 days later its in my hand - no sweat - no problem.

This says a lot because I am a picky SOB and I do not give my business to retailers who are not worthy. Right ow MJS has never failed me and I see no reason why to try some one else.

I have bought very few knives over the net. But, I've checked around and have found some really great prices from different places. I often find that one site will have great prices, but a small selection of knives, or only good prices on one brand of knives etc.
Basically, wherever you find the best price on the net, you can just get 10% off that at discount knives (I've never tried this, but it should work). For Ka-Bar knives, try www.starknives.com. For Cold Steal, try www.Botachtactical.com. For generally the best prices on the net, try www.discountknives.com.

I have also found a few good prices at www.theknifeshop.com, but have very limited knowledge of that site. The good thing about that site is the large (huge) selection they have.

My advice is that if you know the knife you want to buy, keep looking for the best price on the net. Don't just settle for the first site you visit that carries that knife. Often, in one site, a knife can cost literally twice as much as the same knife in another site.

Generally, for good prices, I like Discountknives. They have mostly very low prices.

I have used Kinfecenter.com, Knifeoutlet.com, AGrussell.com, 1SKS.com, all have very good service.

A knife is by default a tool, it's only a weapon when a human chooses to make it so.

dont forget Greg as skylandscutlery.com I have bought many knives from him great guy.

Also Leslie and Steve at nwcutlery.com also good people

Greg at Skylands is great. but I recently had this happen...

I ordered a knife from Marshman Bros...they had the best price and just what I wanted.

The knife arrived...a bit slower than some...and it was in good shape, wrapped in bubble wrap. There was a hand written note on the invoice, "Enjoy your knife!"

Later the same day I received some snail mail...same handwriting, I think. A note inside said, "I dropped this while inspecting your knife, Sorry, I just like completeness." In the letter was the small plastic bag that the knife had been shipped with.

I may have to do more business with these folks...

I bought my BM Leopard from James Mattis at Chai Cutlery. He is a great guy to deal with. I'm currently waiting for a REKAT Carnivore from 1SKS.

A little to your right is an icon that, if you're drunk enough, resembles a shopping cart. It says "Store" under it. Click there to be taken to OneStopKnifeShop.com which has very competitive prices on most popular production knives. I've had great service from them.

Oh, and don't forget to patronize your local "brick and mortar" dealers too. They can often offer you personal services that no .com or 1-800 can. When was the last time your favorite .com or 1-800 called you up and said, "We just got a few of those knives you were asking about the other day in. These things are very popular and are going fast, but if you want, we can set one aside for you." Or, "There was a guy in here this morning with a bundle of knives he wanted to sell. There was nothing of interest to us but he had a (insert the holy grail of whatever kind of knife you like). Didn't you say you were looking for one of those? Here's the guy's name and number." Local dealers can be your best friends.

If you're buying from a bladeforums advertiser help out the forums and dealer and mention you found them here.
It's very helpful for the dealer to know how you found him. Whenever a new person calls my company I always ask who referred them to me. I'm sure it's just as importand to a knife dealer. So please try to do both the forums and dealer a favor and mention it.
