This is absolutely one of those “Eh, why the hell not” purchases. I already have all the big blades I could possibly need, mostly khuks, but this knife was just unapologetically bold. I can already see the problems: the handle looks uncomfortable, the balance will probably be weird, the weight will feel like a metric ton, and the Secure-Ex dulling issue is probably still there... and I ordered one online.

I might review this bad boy in the future. Gotta get my hands on it first.

What about you guys? Any “why the hell not” Cold Steel purchases? I.e. You didn’t strictly need it, but the curiosity was there.

I'm working myself up to getting a 3V Magnum Tanto II. It's ridiculous. I already have a slew of big knives. And I don't need that kind of steel performance. But I want it...

My 4-Max Scout order was definitely one of those 'why the hell not orders'. Just what I need, another XL.
I also hadn't planned on ordering the Shanghai Warrior. It's like a smaller Smatchet which I already have, but for $25, why the hell not.
But, I will probably never see either one, so I guess they don't really count.

Indeed. Realistically, something like an Endura 4 would fill about 90% of the regular dude’s pocket knife needs, hehehe.

For me it was the Shanghai Shadow that is my "Why the hell not" knife. I already have my large blade quota fulfilled with khukuris both traditional as well as Cold Steel Gurkha and Chaos Khukuri, but figured it was a bit unique for me and because it will probably disappear with the sale of Cold Steel so why not.

Mmhmm, along with the Espada XL and Rajah 2. Though I hope GSM also keeps the “outrageous” knives.

Agreed on the Espada XL. That is another knife on my list to get. I do have the Large G-10 version with CTS-XHP steel which I like quite a bit. The Espada XL G-10 version is the one I think I am going to get just in case that also disappears. While the more dressed up XL version looks very good, I am uncomfortable with the smooth handles as the regular G-10 handles have a good amount of grippiness to them. Perhaps someone with the more upscale XL version has different experiences. If so, I would like to hear those.

I actually prefer the smooth polished handles on the fancy ones, but I also lightened up the pocket clip pressure a bit so I don't have to fight it. I think I'm gonna snag a Rajah 2 while they're still available. I might actually like it better than the 1 I sold...I think the FRN handle might cushion better with chopping than the aluminum and g-10.

The plastic handled ones look more practical. The fancy ones look pretty though.

Yes it started out as an impulse buy.......there are even more CS push knives than in the picture now. Talk about useless for 99.9% of the time, but I love them, I don't know why exactly. IMG_2717 - Copy.JPG

So first impressions: handling the knife was way more pleasant than expected and the balance was surprisingly good. Haven’t tested the edge yet.

It’s definitely not a replacement for your BK9 or Junglas, but this is a big fun knife.

I think it's more of a fighting slashing type knife although in a pinch I'd bet it would chop well enough. What kind of grind flat, saber heck I forget and I did watch the video. Congrats on your new blade.

Thanks man. Indeed, it’s designed with fighting in mind. The aluminum piece in the middle of the D-ring will make long bouts of chopping extremely uncomfortable, but it’ll do in a pinch. It’ll open boxes, cut rope, sever thin branches, and that’s good enough for me. Not terribly practical, but I’m having fun with it so far. I’d still stand by the Recon Tanto or SRK as an all-around survival/defensive blade.

With Cold Steel being sold, we’re really not sure how long the outrageous Thompson-esque designs will stay in production. Figured I wanted just one crazy knife.
