Well, sitting here reading others threads about what they want to do in 09 has sort of energized me. Sort of, because I just wolfed down a Five Guys burger while reading it, and am getting sleepy.
This past year was going to be the year when I lost all the weight. I shed a good number of pounds, but not enough. Still a long way to go. The holidays have not been easy either. Well, who wants to hike in the cold? Especially when you are a diabetic, and your feet get ice cold in 50 degree weather.
Well, I have stayed close to local trails. The Heritage Rail Trail in York County PA. The Railroad Trail north of Baltimore, starts in Hunt Valley MD and turns into the Heritage trail in PA. Found a neat little peak in York, Rocky Mount or something similar. I have found a bunch of small parks within a half hour drive of home, and there are many spots to go to. Susquehnna SP and Susquehannock SP in MD and PA are two of my favorites.
My stomping grounds are York, Adams and Lancaster counties PA; Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore, Harford and Cecil counties MD; New Castle county DE; and Salem county NJ. Granted, sometimes I travel further, but I want to keep it close to home, some trails I will actually get to. Maybe no more than an hour or two hours from home.
I've been to so many, and visited a few I never knew existed, that were maybe a half hour from home. Now, I am a fat guy. I love hiking, and love great views. Don't mind a little extra huffin' and puffin' to see a gorgeous view. Nothing that would kill me, please
.
If anyone in the counties above could recommend a good place to go hiking for the day, it would be appreciated. Heck, fishing and camping too. There are many places I have not listed, that I have been to. List whatever you want. If you stopped there for ten minutes on the way home, whatever.
Thanks in advance.
