Well, sitting here reading others threads about what they want to do in 09 has sort of energized me. Sort of, because I just wolfed down a Five Guys burger while reading it, and am getting sleepy. :D

This past year was going to be the year when I lost all the weight. I shed a good number of pounds, but not enough. Still a long way to go. The holidays have not been easy either. Well, who wants to hike in the cold? Especially when you are a diabetic, and your feet get ice cold in 50 degree weather.

Well, I have stayed close to local trails. The Heritage Rail Trail in York County PA. The Railroad Trail north of Baltimore, starts in Hunt Valley MD and turns into the Heritage trail in PA. Found a neat little peak in York, Rocky Mount or something similar. I have found a bunch of small parks within a half hour drive of home, and there are many spots to go to. Susquehnna SP and Susquehannock SP in MD and PA are two of my favorites.

My stomping grounds are York, Adams and Lancaster counties PA; Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore, Harford and Cecil counties MD; New Castle county DE; and Salem county NJ. Granted, sometimes I travel further, but I want to keep it close to home, some trails I will actually get to. Maybe no more than an hour or two hours from home.

I've been to so many, and visited a few I never knew existed, that were maybe a half hour from home. Now, I am a fat guy. I love hiking, and love great views. Don't mind a little extra huffin' and puffin' to see a gorgeous view. Nothing that would kill me, please :D.

If anyone in the counties above could recommend a good place to go hiking for the day, it would be appreciated. Heck, fishing and camping too. There are many places I have not listed, that I have been to. List whatever you want. If you stopped there for ten minutes on the way home, whatever.

Thanks in advance.

I live in York Co. but hang alot in Michaux forest of Adams, Cumberland and Franklin Co.
Hawk Mtn. in Berks is another locale I know well.
Scott Gossman and I get together when ever we can and do some day trips and overnighters in your general AO, get in touch with him and we can plan some hikes.

He's about ten minutes from me, I am at his shop often. I promised him I would actually camp overnight at his campout next year :o.

I've tried to find new places throughout Delaware. New Castle county is the most populated county in DE so it'll be hard to find places.

Lum's Pond has a ~7 mile loop around the pond that is a fairly nice walk and is remote on the back side of the park.

There is also quite a bit of land you can use in Blackbird State forrest in Southern New Castle county.

I've been to Bombay Hook wildlife refuge a few times, but there is very limited vehicle traffic on the trail so you may encounter some cars taking in the scenery.

If you want to set up a M&G I'd love to attend and meet some of the people here.

I go with friends to Harpers Ferry and Sugarloaf. I love the view at Harper's ferry.

The Batona Trail In Southern NJ. Goes right through the middle of the Pine Barrens where the Jersey Devil supposedly dwells.

Did a solo overnighter there with minimal equipment, no tent, no food last Mothers day.

The whole trail is 52 miles but I Hiked in 10 or so and back out the next morning.

I am thinking of doing the whole deal in 3 days this year.

If you want more details, let me know.

I dropped the ball on a meet and greet wss themed excursion for Jerzee Devil. Will be in Jersey. Another New Years resolution :D.

Saint Anthony's Wilderness just north of Fort Indiantown Gap is a great place. The AT run through it but there are a lot of side trails as well. Mac

My parents hiked the AT, from VA to PA, when they were newlyweds. Lots of great stories and pics, I would like to do that one day.

I was stuck in New Castle for Christmas. Had I known you were there I would have loved a hike.

I hike around deep creek lake and go to Swallow Falls State park in the spring and Summer, its out in Garrett County. I Love the place as there are several waterfalls including Muddy falls which is I believe the tallest waterfall in MD? I Hike the Patapso state park trails often and if you go to the Patapsco river (Danielles region) there are trails there. I find alot of trails while trout fishing, which is great because I am hiking while I am fishing, both things I love. I have done trails around the Gunpowder while fishing/hiking.

There's not much here, but there enough to get out and stretch your legs.

Give me a holler next time you are here and we'll hit some trails.

Sounds good to me. It isn't often that I have the time but if I do, I'll be yellin'.

Next time you're in the area, let me know. My shop is only an hour to an hour and half from Delaware.

I'm going to have to stop by some time and check out the shop and pick up a knife :)

I'm in southern NC county, very close to MD.
