Plain-edge Merlin? Is it true?

I have heard tell of the plain edge making a comeback in the Harpy/Merlin series. Is this for real, or just wishful thinking?
What are the chances this might catch on?

I would be in favor of it. Sal made one for me by having a serrated ground down to make a PlainEdge. About that time, I don't remember Sal's exact words, Iwas told there was a possibility the PlainEdge would come back. it all depended on demand. If they are brought back, I hope they are not ground down versions of the serrated Merlin. I doubt that would be the way sal would have it done, but you got cover all of your bases.

I know of at least one distributor who has plain edge harpys on order. They have been on backorder for awhile.

Don't know when they will be delivered but at least that should mean they are in the system.

I've spoken with Spyderco and have found out that these plain edged knives are in the works:
Merlin
Pro Grip
Goddard lightweight

I have also just received plain edged Co-Pilots and Natives.
I look forward to attending the Shot Show and hope to meet any one of you there.

If you make'em in plain edge, I will be there for sure! I wanted a Merlin in plain edge from the first moment I handled one. I bought a serrated one because the design is too good to pass up, but I REALLY WANT a plain edge version. Please!

Patti, I've had plain edge Natives and Goddard lightweights for a long time. I just recently heard about the plain edge copilot coming back and here it is. They should never have dropped it in the first place. I definitely will carry them. Plainedge Harpys too.

SHOT show next week. I'll be there. I didn't make it to Atlanta last year so it's been two years for me. I'm really looking forward to it. Should be a good one this year.

Unfortunately I can't contribute to the discussion of new plain edged Harpys, but I do have something to say about the about the original plain edged ones! I picked up two, plain edged, SST handled Harpys about 6 months ago from an east coast auction service. Apparently, they bought out the estate of some old survivalist who had SHELVES of knives, mostly Spyderco. All NIB. They had a few plain edged Harpys, Mariners, Hunters etc last I spoke with them and thay give great service. You can reach them at

Sallie sold me one of the old-style plain-edge Harpy's just a couple of weeks ago. I believe she said she only had one more on the shelf, but may have been wrong. If you want the original without teeth, HURRY!

Having played with the first-edition, I really do want to get a plastic-handled version.
