Plain edge Merlin

Mike,

Thanks for all your help. The Merlin is a month or two away, cheap knives soon become expensive here with the exchange rate and shipping

so I'm still saving my pennies. Soon as I order it I'll get in touch by e-mail for a sheath.

I asked before but never got an answer... How many of the plain edge SS Harpy's were made? and when? I came across one last month that Brian "Hawkbill" was going to buy, but my friend beat him to it. Reading all these post's it seem's that no one has seen them before. Maybe I should have picked it up myself.

Keith - We made plain edge Harpy's only for a short while. We also made them in a left hand version. Plain edge is very rare though. One day we'll compile the "how many were made of each model and variation?"

Shoot...I should have picked it up myself! Oh well, I prefer my serrated one anyway. Brian, I bet your sorry you didn't act quicker too!

Wow, I feel kinda special, my wife bought me a plain edge harpy for my wedding present. (Even had it engraved with our initials and anniversary.) One nice thing about having it was when I was spending a lot of time in a warehouse, I could always say I used it for opening boxes...

Now a left handed, plain edge harpy. That would be something else!

Now if we are talking about using the Merlin handle, it can be a lefty in a snap. I'm all for a G-10 version, but don't know how that would sell beyond some of us here.

Keith- Yes, I am VERY sorry I snoozed on calling regarding the plain-edge Harpy you'd found. It may be a while before I see another chance.

Well, Sal went and made an extremely happy camper! I have a PlainEdge Merlin in my hands. I received Friday and have been playing with it the entire time. I will have a review done shortly, but I'll give a quick overview.

It would be easy to say take a standard Merlin and make it PlainEdge, but that isn't the case on this one. This appears to have started life as a serrated Melrin and was expertly ground to remove the serrations and leave a razor sharp edge that has been sharpened on both sides instead of one, as on the serrated Merlin. (run on sentence, sorry)

I don't have pictures at this time, but take a look at Heyns modification to the G-10 Harpy. He has almost the exact contour started at the tip, if you keep that same line and remove the rest of the serrations, you will get the knife I have in hand. The tip really looks like a baby Civilian. It actually reminds me of the claw of a cat. You know how cat's claws look when they haven't been cut for a while? This knife is that wicked. I haven't done any real cutting with the knife as of yet. I have just played a little with paper and some cloth. It made effortless cuts.

That is all for now. I will have more shortly.
