If it came down to it, and you only had one blade, on a sturdy folder. Would you rather have it partially serrated or a full plain edge?

And which you do prefer for EDC?

It’s a no-brainer for me… Straight edge is the only way to go.

In my opinion serrated edges where designed for people who can’t sharpen knives. :jerkit:

All save one (which I keep for sentimental purposes) of my fixed blades are plain edged. I dislike serrations in general. My current EDC is a plain edged folder, though for several years I carried a combo edge (Trident) for daily use.

Plain, I never did figure out what a serrated edge was more useful for then a regular edge.

plain edge for everything really. if you are in a survival situation, you can roughly sharpen a plain edge on a rock. even if you have access to regular sharpening tools, serrations are harder to sharpen. if you accidentally cut yourself with a serrated knife, it is going to hurt alot worse than a plain edge. even with a partial serration, because of where they usually put the serration, you cannot get the precision required for some tasks.

Another vote for plain edge. Serrated can cut some rope but a PITA to sharpen and deal with.

Two, one serrated one plain, haha Leathermen wave and a nimravus or 551 cover my A$$

Unless part of your survival scenario is cutting rope and/or nylon straps: plain.

not for survival but for EDC, at work I use a Kershaw Blur, partail serraration. It only has about an inch of fine/ smaller serrarationcompared to other knives pruning saw teeth. I use it everyday to ct open tubes of silicone gasket sealant, works good and for me easy to sharpen I just sharpen it like it is all regular edge. Pat

Plain. I use the back edge of the knife for detailed work, serrations would
drive me crazy.

i don't carry serrated edges, i am pretty much a slipjoint guy for EDC and simple, classic fixed blades in the bush...

serrated has its merits, but i don't need them. and they are hard to sharpen.

i use a saw for when i need to saw things...;)
