Auntie Yangdu picked these up during her last trip to Nepal from the village of Planchok.
They are a villager khukuri and 2 villager kitchen knives.
As you can see, they are very villager and quite rustic....Villager with a capital "V"
These are what people in any remote village might use daily for kitchen work and other daily usages.

The handle on #3 looks like it could be what I've seen called "Mountain Rhododendron". My experience with this stuff was very good.

Good call, Berk. I would have gone for #2 myself. I am just picturing these things getting sharpernhell.

I think your taken by the contrasting color in the handle. Blade looks a little smoother on #1. Both look like they would be a great knife in the kitchen.

My wife is still recovering from that day I layed all my blades out on the bed (dumb move) at once or id take one of those. Im liking no.2. Never know whats on the other side?

Why is #3 not called a kukuri, but a planchok? Could someone detail the difference, in the pics is doesn't look so much different than my kvluk. Except for no markings.

I think only because it comes from the village of Planchok. It's a kukri for sure. I'm sure the other two knives have a different name too but I have no clue what it might be.
Guess it's a geography thing rather than a model thing.

Interesting, I like the rustic look
When you're accustomed to HI's usual level of fit and finish - even the "as forged" and "villager" models - it can be a bit of culture shock to lay your hands on the product of a real village kami. Thanks to Yangdu for bringing back a tremendous souvenir of her last trip to Nepal.
The Planchok knife is just the way the kami made it, and as such isn't set up for pampered Western tastes. It isn't sharpened at all - the buyer is expected to do that. It isn't polished and oiled - truth to tell, it's just plain dirty. So, hot water and soap, and lots of it. Mineral oil, ditto. Break out the Lansky and the DMT. And, behold -a true diamond in the rough.

It will be a lot of fun discovering just how many uses I can find for this workhorse.

Excellent! It looks real handy for kitchen duty. The drop from handle to edge is nice.

Great picture, Berkely
thank you for sharing

EMS#2 I just happen to have some chilli peppers needing processing! Thanks for the pics Berkley:thumbup:

Hey both of them Planchok Villagers are moving to Texas! Any other Texans here want to give that Khuk a home? Maybe Floridians? I can see a Siru in the rough underneath that scale!

Karda, sent you an em. Ill take the 17oz kukri if its still available. It is the most rural example ive seen so far.

Thanks Gehazi, I hope its still available. I am intriqued to feel and see the difference. It looks to be very rural. From the beginning of my search I wanted one an actual nepalese villager might have.......now I need a 22-23oz model.
