Fantastic looking kitchen knives. I will have to try to pay more attention to this subforum. Missing a lot of good stuff.

great buy hawks, will probably be right up your alley ! -- ndog joins berk in elite planchok club
This is a Khul knife! Yep its dirty but sharp and even has a spalted something or other handle. Its perfect for the gally:thumbup: Good snag Hawk! That Khuk should be interesting at 17oz.

Strong bed you got there. What's the model?
I normally sleep on a full motion water bed:eek: Man im seeing double again! Steve you messed me up good today;)

The handle is made of Fadelo fruit wood. Some where I have the pix store and if I can find it will post more details of Palanchok Knife.
All and all Palanchok villeger Kami and their family were very happy to see HI and made few Knives.
Hopefully I will get to visit the Palanchok Kami and the villagers in next year.

Ok, $ sent via paypal. Please let me know when you've received it. Between forum name, email name and the paypal name, im lost. On the last purchase I made, I wasn't sure by the end who id actually bought it from

Haha! I didn't see that thread. I'm glad I wasnt too far off on the pricing. It all worked out in the end for a good deal all around.
I'd forgotten about that thread, but when I checked my hard drive I had saved a couple of pics:

At least now we know that little knife you and ndog have is known as a Gowa.

Thanks Berk and Karda! So its a Gowa. Interesting blades in the pic as well. The one on top looks like Chitlangi and the bent ones look more like Thai blades. Ive been on the lookout for one of those and they called them HUA-TAD in the Aranyik markets but they are nothing as beefy as those in the pic. Those look more like HI quality stuff. Bring that Kami home to HI and it wouldnt bother me a bit:thumbup:

Its partial tang. I guess its burned and glued in. Its pretty simple with a band for a bolster. I'll try to post some pics tonight when I get home. Love the spalted handle:thumbup:
ndog, does that Gowa knife have a through tang (peened or bent over the end of the handle), or does it end somewhere inside the handle?

Hehe, you know it is funny, Those Gowa's look great. they are rough, simple knives, nothing fancy, no special steels or techniques, made with basic tools by someone that probably doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about why he makes them the way he does, it is just how it is done. But when you look at the design from an eye of functionality they just seem to have evolved into an exceptionally useful shape/size ect. I congratulate those of you who got one. They are unique and very hard for those of us who can't travel to Nepal to get one.

. #3 just arrived and im in heaven. Its true, this one probably wouldn't send you over the top, but it fits my hand and swings so effortlessly, truly a blade to be used all day without fatigue. Again, I love this rustic style, the feeling that it could've been plucked out of a villagers hand.

I know most of you guys get this experience with even a 23 or 28oz blade and the shiny ones are beautiful pieces of art. I have a hard time describing it, but the balance and fit make it seem like it has no weight. Feels more nimble than my 7 1/2", 1/4" thick bowie.

My precious..........my precious. .....precious.

Glad you like them Hawk....Berk and ndog
True villagers directly from village kamis are hard to come by around here. After finally seeing the previous sales thread, I'm kinda surprised they didn't sell at all before. Then Yangdu filed them away since then and then found them again. Believe it or not I cleaned some dirtiness and surface rust off of them and gave the handles a wipedown with some minwax wood preservative. You guys might want to sand that off a bit and hydrate those handles with the treatment you prefer.

Done deal Karda and congrats hawk! The knife I got upon further inspection looked peened sharp. Amazing. I did touch it up with a 2200 ceramic rod slightly but it probably would have been fine as is. It will now slice the thinnest of tomatoes no problem. I did take it out to harvest some Bull Nettle nuts yesterday. Heres a few pics.

What do you get when you cross a French chef's knife and a Chinese cleaver?
