Well Siguy has done it already. When he spend the night out with the basics. I got no customers showing up tomorow. If i dont get any calls till noon im going to drive to a place at santa monica mountains. To see how i would do for 24 hours. The only real extra i would take would be a jacket and warm socks. Im not going to make a fire to stay warm. Here in SO CALI you dont want to be seen making a fire, people might not take it lightly. Im going to try and do it as realistic as i can. I got a plan to go geocaching and about an hour or so before dark. I would try and find a place to spend the night.
Any advice or ideas please do let me know. Also without fire it means nothing hot to drink or eat to put some heat into the body. I would still carry my fire kit just in case if i do need it. Now if it would have been real then i would have no problem getting a fire going to help me stay warm.

You may want to allow yourself more time for shelter location and building if your going to go without fire. Allow three to four hours make it small and insulate it well and you should be fine. Make sure to build some means to close the shelter, many books and videos skip that point and it is critical to staying warm.

With a projected low of 50° and a high of 68° F tomorrow, you may want to pack the down jumpsuit and battery operated heated socks! :D

As long as you have suitable clothing, a way to insulate yourself from the ground and a way to keep the dew off of you, going without a fire should be fine.

Please bring enough clothing, and the ability to make a shelter and fire, even if you don't have to.

And take pics!!

Morning guys, The temp droped last night and i could feel it. I always carry something to make a fire with, But i would spend the time to collect the wood as if i would make fire. I want it to be same as if i got lost on a hike or made the hike too long to make it back same day. Knowing my self i know i wont be stoping 3-4 hours of day light to set up camp. I would be walking till the last min. So i would give my self no more then an hour to set up. To see what realy works for me. Most of the area where i hike there is not enough material to build a shelter.

Got my stuff ready. Going to get a move on in a few. The temp just droped out here if it looks like rain i would cancel it.. I dont want to carry a thermos or anything that would make too easy. I do look at it as a learning exp making it too easy would be like backpacking. In the post with the challenge to do stay out for the night, Was with what we realy carry.

Goodluck sasha:thumbup: I have the same problem as you, with the no fire thing here in Nor Cal. Probably will have to work on making a really well insulated shelter as well, and use the space blanket + candle combo if it gets really cold....

So how did it work out? I noticed a lot of fog/marine layer over the SM Mountains yesterday afternoon when I went for a short hike. Hope the fog wasn't too unpleasant.
