Would this probably be the Blackie Collins auto I've seen sold for
$ 10.00???? I believe the only metal in that design is the opening spring itself......and I've heard even it's nonmetallic. Inquiring minds NEED to KNOW!!!!!! :-)

Just what we all need....

Just what i was thinking,it's kinda stupid for a knife manufacture to even make such a thing, it will just lead to more knife prohibition.

I don't know if it was the knife used in the incident but... the knife in question is the Blackie Collins letter opener. The knife retails for around $12 to $15 and is glass filled resin. It is a beryllium (?) spring assisted for quick opening but is not automatic. It comes in orange and black and many online retailers carry and sell it. The knife might be considered legal since it has a piece of metal in it thus rendering it detectable by metal detectors. Just my 2 cents.

A friend of mine just got his. It's pretty much a knife shaped toy. The tip is thin and flimsy. The "edge" is just plain dull. IMHO these are nothing more than gimmick knives. One could do more damage with harsh words than one of these.

It does sound like the blackie collins plastic knife.

I wonder how much of this is true. Im not saying it is or is not. The paranoia in this country right now seems out of countrol. The article says screaming in a middle eastern language and spanish? I wonder how much, if any is added to what happened in this situation. Reminds me of when I lived in arkansas how many people I knew were convinced that all black people were thieves. If anything happened there many assumed the person was black before they knew what they looked like.I have Islamic neighbors from egypt who would'nt hurt a fly. I wonder if the incident on the train had anything added to it? i certainly wasnt there so I sure do not know. With all this negative publicity about knives...

if it was a blackie collins knife....covert!!!...designed to "sneak" through metal detectors?.....lol!! its a piece of junk!!!!

Totally true. One of my friends has one, and if someone threatened me with one, I'd grab the blade and snap it off! :barf:
