OK OK you win! Surviving a blocked barrel/explosion through Austrian technology beats 4 aces.

But I STILL like my Beretta better. So there. LOL

Hey Chris,I had 3 S&W mod19s disintegrate in my hands when i was "testing" revolvers in the "70s" then i switched to 3rd generation(steel)pistols where i stayed until my untimely? demise from the company due to "the agreement" with bill, anyway my point is I retired my steel combatcommander in .45
for a nice compact G27. AND when Taxacchusetts gets offit's ass and lets GLock sell again i'll buy a nice compact G36
OK enough raving Have a great day

The interesting thing is, no one has discussed a junk pistol in the Thread.

Can't we get someone in here that says all of the Glocks, SigSauers, Berettas, Heckler & Koch, and Smiths are junk and we need to have a $1,500.00 handgun to defend ourselves?

Well, you know Don, compared to a screwdriver and cutting shears, the Beretta just doesn't thrust well at ALL.
biggrin.gif

Seriously, though - does the barrel on the Glock HAVE to tilt when you lock/rack the slide? It's very unnerving to see the barrel come "off-line" right before you shoot the pistol... Of course, I can't bitch. If there was a brave enough soul in front of me when I had my Beretta pointed at them, they COULD feasibly remove my slide assembly al la the Lethal Weapon movies if they wanted to risk a 9mm messenger... (frighteningly, that actually works - I thought maybe it could be done without a round chambered - you know, for "looks" in the film, but you can also do it when there IS a round in the chamber, which is a bad thing..)

Wait.. this is a KNIFE forum, right? LOL sorry guys - get me talking about guns, and I'll go til I'm blue in the face!

Don, if my life is on the line, I use the best whether its whitewater kayaking or defending myself. That best so far is the SIG P229 in 40 cal. For me the SIG shoots the best of anything I have ever shot and the two I own have been 100% reliable after the first 50 shots. I can not conceive of a better carry weapon in terms of firepower(12rnd mags), concealment and caliber.

Yup, that's what's unlocks the barrel from the slide! the wedge lock on your Beretta has the same function (locking the barrel to the slide) but the Berettas barrel doesn't tilt, it moves backwards instead.

Just for note, if i'm not totally wrong, if you push on the barrel assembly it will not be able to fire, the disconnector will prevent this, firing out of battery will result in a broken gun and broken shooter.

Not trying to be a wise-ass, i'm not quite sure that you were serious 'bout that question!!

Well, as we're now on the subject of weaponry !

For my money, I have to go with the Beretta 92F which I had for 13 years before our government stopped trusting us.

Don't let it happen to you guys !

dd - I got news for ya. Our gov't DOESN'T trust us. If it DID, we'd have an f-ing President by now! Don't get me started on the Electoral College, please. :

As for Beretta's, I have the good 'ol 92F myself. I even managed to get one before the ban on large capacity clips. So, I've got three 15-rounders to go with it! I think my next aquisition will be either the Sig P220 (gotta love .45), or the new Walther.

Bet you guys can't guess which Pistole I use! Tried the Glock 19 once. I will have to say that it is a very size efficient toy, er, gun. I just can't get used to that toyish feeling plastic trigger. Or the fact that I've seen to many Kabooms and jams with them! No thanks. I'll just load up my 92FS Brigadier and keep shootin without any jambs. One problem with that is it makes tap-rack-bang practice kinds tough.

By the way, is the frame on those things dishwasher safe? Top rack only, maybe?

I'm glad to see the respect come out for the Beretta 92F in this post. I've been on some firearm forums, and the Beretta takes some trash talk. I love my Beretta 92F in stainless steel (I guess that would be a 92FS). The Glocks, Sigs and Walthers are also great (like knives, there is no "one" gun built that will fit everyone, my lowly opinion only). But this post wouldn't be complete without mention of my favorite, the P7 family of "Squeeze Cockers" from H and K.
Since this is a knife/Emerson forum, I better say that I aspire to own a CQC 6!!!! (Derek, does this keep this new guy legal concerning the forum topic?!!)

I don't think you can go wrong with any handgun that has been discussed in this, or the other Thread. It becomes a matter of what fits your hand then, in my own opinion.

I would not feel "undergunned" if I had any of them.

That having been said, I "retired" my Glock M17 9mm that I had owned for about 8 years. It went as a part of a trade-in on my Sig P-220 .45ACP.

With well over 5,000 rounds of PMC FMJ & JHP, American Eagle FMJ, UMC FMJ and Federal HydraShok JHPs...it never "Jammed." Not once.

I had 3 or 4 Stoppages that I can directly attribute to Gun Show "Reloads." You know, the smokey bastards... Projectile cleared the barrel, but not enough power to fully cycle the action.

About 5 more Stoppages were due to my Nephew being unfamiliar with handguns and he "limp-wristed" the Plastic Pig. There might have been another Stoppage with a friend firing it that was also a Newbie.

Point being, no "jams" whatsoever, and had I been the only one to fire the pistol with factory ammunition, it would have never had a Stoppage either...for 5,000+ rounds.
