Platen ?

I got a sears 2x42 grinder, the platen is 3/16 wider than my belts.I want to reface it with tile. Should the new face be dead on 2in?Also what thickness should i go for ? thanks for any suggestions,it will be awhile before i get back to the computer. But i will check in later. time to get back to work.whoops forgot no four letter dirty words.

I cut the excess off and glued a glass platen on mine. good luck.
