Platoon Leaders Class?

Greeting from a fellow OCS applicant!

I need to point out there are a lot of opinions and false statements in this thread.

To set the record straight-

There is no obligation! No legal binding contract.

However....

Unlike ROTC, the enlisted service, or many other military options this program is very competitive to enter and requires a lot of personal dedication. Before you can get in you must fill out an in-depth application, send out references, go to MEPS ( a military medical exam), and pass the toughest civilian fitness requirements I know of. IE the shape you are in before joining.

Your PFT (Physical Fitness Test) is composed of three parts:
3 mile run
pull-ups
situps
A perfect score is 18 minutes or better for the run, 20 pullups, and 100 situps in 2 minutes.

This is all individual stuff, so if your looking for the motivation of a drill seargeant (or equivalent) you're SOL.

Then, even if you get a perfect 300 on your physical, you face a tough admissions process. Many get rejected.

So now your're at Quantico. Or the west coast school, i think?? The demands on you are tough because how you hold up physically(and it is tough!) is only a 1/3 of their rating of you. They also measure your academic performance (1/3) on Marine history, as well as leadership(1/3).

This might seem like a lot but once you get going it all falls in to place.

Although this program is obligation free, it is designed for those that truely want to join the Marines. Your OSO (officer selection officer?) ie the guy that helps you with any questions, is your key to a successful application. If he thinks you're not really interested in becoming an officer what motivation does he have to help you?

Finally, this program is an awesome opportunity for those that know they want to join the armed forces and would like to see if they're cut out to be an officer.

My own story - Applied, got rejected at MEPs for a mole on my back. It sucks! I'm going in for a 2nd opinion as a last shot but its not looking good :grumpy:
I'm pretty sure this condition will also keep me from all other branches of the service so its kinda a bummer. Hehe, I'm curious if a little mole will keep a draft officer from nabbing me if we ever have a draft

Edit: I forgot to mention www.marineocs.com which is a forum run by present and past OCS candidates. Awesome for the real scoop. Unfortunately it is down right now

WOW!! Thanks for all the info. That's just the stuff I wanted to know

BTW, good luck with the mole. I have a feeling you'll be able to find a way around it :)
