platypus bag mod

I was having trouble storing empty platypus bags when I hike and so I thought I would look for a mod to fix my problem. I stumbled across a shock cord mod that would help you roll up the bags when they are in your pack to save room and keep them from getting damaged. so I purchased some 1\8Th inch shock cord from the local fabric store.
first you cut a length of 10 inches.
then you fold it in half and tie an overhand knot about 1 1\2 inches down from the loop.

make sure the loop fits over the bottle mouth snug. if it doesn't you can loosen the knot and tighten it on the bottle.

then you tie another knot at the two loose ends to make another large loop. this will hold the bottle rolled up.

after rolling up the bag, you pull the shock cord under the bag and loop it over the top of the mouth of the bag. this secures it and keeps it rolled.

now you give it a try. all in all this gear mod cost me $1.20. not bad.

Great but simple idea and could work with a bunch of other things as well. I like to carry a couple of extra stuff sacks/mesh bags cause you never know what you'll need to pick up along the way.

I really need to get some of those platypus bags. They look great.

platypus bags are all I use these days. they are light and durable. I have even poured boiling water in them and used them to stay warm.

Broomstick, the photos are no longer loading. Would like to see your innovation.

Danny, thanks for the video link...interesting...must experiment and try this. Curious tho, what is the advantage with this homemade system with the aqua pro filter as compared to the Clean Stream system made by Platypus? I bought the Clean Stream and it filters water like a "house on fire" and I have no complaints...the only advantage perhaps with this system other than potential $ savings is it may be more lightweight/packable.

You are welcome, sir.

I had several of the 50 gallon Aquamira filters left over from a project so this just seemed like the thing to use them for at the time. I haven't personally used the Clean Stream but a friend of mine has one and loves it. I like the fact that it will process 4 liters in 2.5 minutes and will backflush for cleaning. Thanks for bringing the Clean Stream to my attention, I really need to give this system a look so I can intelligently compare the two. :)

Thanks...I've been trying different pocket filters / purification methods and the little Aquamria Pro is pretty simple for the kids to use. I just picked up a few extra 1 liter Platypus bottles specifically for combining with the filter. This will make a simple storage method, thanks!

The Clean Stream filter does look interesting...seems more for a group where as the Pro Filter is mostly an individual focused filter.
