Just a few pictures of Bryan's final option knife in use. I think these are pretty much self explanatory....the only things used are those you see in the pics, the F.O.K., a firesteel, and some fatwood.

Thanks,

Yeah, the edge is very sharp and great for the finer slivers and tinder, and the spine did great at scraping off some finer dust and sparking the ferro rod. It's a great addition to the kit...I'll be wanting two more of them now lol.

Yeah, now get out there, and while you're at it take some pics!

Damn! How many breeden's you got? Sweet little knife!

This one makes four...but this one is not quite as expensive as the other ones :D

Great little knife!

Yep, this one is really sweet, really handy...now if I can only talk him into making a 4.5" one in 1/8

Glad you liked it...

and um nooooooooooooooo

Yeah those little knives are handy in the kits!

Yeah, very handy! This and a ferro rod would make a great last ditch kit to have on a necl lanyard or something....I'm still thinking of how I want to do it.

By the way...if I just wrote anything that sounds loopy....I'm sorry...I'm heavily medicated at the moment and spell check only checks for spelling mistakes....not stupid ones........

I've always dug lil kit knives, they just always appeal to me for some reason. Maybe it's the ability to stash them everywhere, so you're never without something sharp and sturdy :).

I've just recently begun to mess with the little kit knives but I've quickly developed a fondness for them.

I like the Small Survival type Knive's/PSK's ! That one look's like a Handy Little Knife for the BOB and an EDC Necker, I'm gonna have to Order a couple of them, I've got an Invitation to come out to the Farm and Visit with Bryan and get a Knife Made "And See The Man At Work ! I better take him up on that one, Plus It would be Great to finally meet someone from the W&SS Forum, And Thank's for the Great picture's MistWalker "I really like your review's !"

I almost rode over there while I was in Western Illinois, now I wish I had.

Thanks, glad you like the pics, and the reviews!

If you dont mind me asking, about how much was the knife?

They are $18.00 to $22.00 depending on the size and steel $18.00 for 1095 and $22.00 for 0-1. I'm sure Bryan will chime in with the specifics tomorrow. I'm going to be getting a couple more later on. Now I want 1 of the 4.5" in 1/8 I think to use in classes

Hi all,

Like mistwalker said those little psk knives are around $20 roughly.

So Rockywolf and Mistwalker, you think a 1/8" by 4.5" or what ever length would be better or more usefull than 1/16" or even 3/32" thick? LOL.
Remember the Final Option knife was a option for the Final Option kit that George Jasper of the United States Rescue and Special Operation Group.
Written about in Mr. Jaspers book called (Six Ways In and Twelve Ways Out ) Jasper talked about having a little kit that can be put into your wallet or purse ( for the ladies LOL) or in your pocket etc. Jasper wrote that he was using a single edge razor blade for the only cutting tool in that kit. Well when I read his book and about using a razor blade for a knife I thought YUCK LOL. So that got me to thinking about a thin 1/16" thick small knife instead of a Razor blade. So I made one up. I thought yea this is more like it LOL. Then I contacted Mr Jasper and we chatted about this little knife I made up for my Final Option kit like his. George Jasper said he liked the idea and the pic of the knife I sent to him. I then sent Jasper 2 (1 with a OAL of 3.5" and I think it was 3.75") knives. When Jasper got the knives he wrote on the US RSOG Web site about how he liked it and said this should have been in the SERE comunity 5 years ago. George Jasper asked about if that little knife could be called the Final Option knife. I said Yep that is fine with me LOL Cool Idea.
That is why I made it so thin, But if you 2 want one with a thickness of 1/8" I can sure do that. I think it would not be to much more in price. maybe $3 to $5.

Anyways thanks for the comments and the review mistwalker :D
Like you said after getting and using little knives like this, ya really do devolpe a fondness for these little knives.

Snakd Dr. Yea we are going to have to get together and chat about knives
sometine:thumbup:

Take care all,

Bryan

Well...I understand the concept, and like the thin one very much for that idea. I was just thinking a thicker one might be better in my urban travels so I could just take it out of the sheath for cutting things in public and leave the larger knife put up so as not to cause any sheeple any unnecessary stress :D ...also now that she has seen it Lisa wants one and says the thinness and square edges hurt her girly hand so I was thinking a couple of thicker ones for us and rounding some of the edges on the handle for her, but if this is 1/16 then 3/32 should be fine...though you know me and my over kill habit. I'd like to have one like the small knife you have in the back of your Warthorn sheath done in 3/32 or 1/8 also but the money just isn't there at the moment...hopefully soon though.

Bryan,

I still have not settled on blade length yet.

Guys, that book Bryan is talking about is a really cool book! I think Bryan's is plastic spiral bound and mine is different from that. Mr. Jasper is putting a manual out that is pretty good for $13.00 shipped and has quite a few ideas in there that you may not have ever considered. Well worth it. Bryan's knife should be a valuable addition to any little PSK you can dream up.

Looks kinda like it's inspired by the SOE lapel knives of WWII.

So does the Keith Spencer designed Leliera, I think that is how it is spelled, that used to be included in Bob Cooper's Survival Kits. I have mine at my brother's being sheathed along with a Mickey Yurco PSK stainless steel knife and a Koyote PSK knife.

This one is a bit heavier, but not too heavy. Bryan made it as a devoted firesteel striker but it can be pressed to knife tasks if needed. Works great in my firekit. I've even carried in the flap of my tilley hat a couple of times! The little bit of orange mircata is very comfortable to hold.

Great thing about it is how visible it is when you set it down. The first thing that happens when you get your spark to catch and a little flame goes up, is you set down your firesteel and striker and then go about placing your kindling to build your fire. It doesn't take you too long of doing that before you forget about your striker and firesteel sitting there on the ground....

I also have on of Magnussen's Strife knives that he forged from a piece of file. This guy is meant primarily as a flint striker, but has enough of an edge to put to use for knife related things. As part of a flint & steel kit, it is kind of nice because you can use the blade part cut your jute twine to size to form your tinder bundle. Have to be a bit more cautious in striking though so as to not cut yourself on the strike. Had it happen to one of my students I was showing the technique to. I quickly gave the rest of the students the regular style strikers to play with.

Hi all,

mistwalker, Yea I get what you are saying about a little thicker one for Lisa's hand. Yea I can make on up out of 3/32" or 1/8" also.

Hey that knife that I have with my Warthorn in not a Final Option knife that is a different knife in honor of a freind of mine who was in Force Recon Marines in Nam. He had a little knife like that ( not excatly the same but close from what i can remember from his drawing that I saw almost 20 years back) made for him after his first tour in Nam.

Don that is ok when you do just let me know:D.
Yep that book is a great read:thumbup:

Ken that is neat that you can carry that little striker knife in your hat.

I think 1/8 should be about perfect, but 3/32 would stil be good.

Ok, ok so that one's not a final option knife...I still like it :D
