Well, Lisa and my oldest were gone, it was just the little one and myself so I did a small experiment that turned out pretty good...wish I had remembered I was out of fresh garlic before I started though.

One of the reasons I want a slightly longer one.

Glass cutting board

Looks like a nice convex edge on that one :)

Nah...it's some sort of plastic :) , but yes it does have a nice convex edge on it.

Man, o man fried onions, potatos and sausage and some pepers. Brian you got to stop that stuff LOL I am waiting on dinner now and looking at the fried up awesome looking food is jut driving me nuts LOL

Thanks, it was pretty good.

Sounds like a good size. I think they're a great piece of kit.

While I was at the UPS Store today sending off a package I also took in a box of different tools and other items and had the very nice (and very lovely I might add) Miss Rachel weigh them for me. No...it was not for the purpose of watching her walk back and forth from the counter to the scale a dozen times....I never even considered that as I packed the items, it was merely a pleasant consequence of my intended mission. Had I stopped and considered that for a moment I might have been curious about the weights of other random objects as well :D . Anyway I learned that the weight of this tool is 0.8 ounces or 23 grams, not a bad weight for a very versatile piece of kit.

Well...my little F.O.K. found a temporary home today. Some time back a cool friend offered to send me some bamboo that was different that what I had on hand locally to work with. I wanted to try it out for fire starting and some other things.

At the first of the week I got the package but was pretty busy with a couple of other projects and at the same time taking pain meds that made we feel too worn down to do much other than work. Tonight I finally got around to opening the box just to check it out and found a surprise inside. Not only did he send some bamboo of various diameters...Some even pretested, I'm guessing so I can't say it's the bamboo if I don't get flame lol.

but he also sent a firesteel.com firesteel and a striker!

IMG_5394.jpg

Well...not being one with a lot of patience I decided to give the new firesteel a go tonight. Man, this thing really throws some molten burning chunks of metal!

Since I had recently been given another small kit tool. and had also found a few odds and ends....I found twelve feet of cordage and a tensioner on the last trip to the woods, along with 24 feet of 1/2" webbing...I decided to try to incorporate them together. Several people have brought up and made drill bit case fishing kits lately so I thought why not see what I could do with this stuff. Now my shiny new (two year old) drill bit doesn't have a protective home anymore but I'll think of something....the darn thing did cost like $20.00 after all, anyway...this is what I put together so far and still have some room for some alcohol prep pads and maybe a couple more things as the kit is literally expandable.

The piece of wood the fishing line is wrapped around is whittled out of fatwood

IMG_5405.jpg

This is what it looks like next to my knife and the 24 feet of webbing, not bad for the amount of room it takes up. Here it only has one of the metal containers in it...will expand more than enough to hold the other one.

Hi all,

I like the kit you made up and the bamboo you got. That little firesteel blank looks really good to.

Did you whittle that fatwood stick with your Final Option knife or your Warthron knife?

I did some whittling today with your new "1... LOL I was just doing some litte more shaping ( on the spear shaft) and sharpening ( spear tip) on that the spear I made with the MEGA Warthorn LOL. That new "1... just carves Awesome:D

I hope you get some pics using that little fishing kit;) and post them:D

I can hardly wait to see what you do with that bamboo too.

I am looking forward to working with the bamboo. The new kit is pretty cool, I like it.... it would hold a 5" final option knife of the same width. And that fire steel blank doesn't through as many sparks as the light my fire brand ones I have but the sparks it does throw burn hotter and longer.

I whittled it with the F.O.K.

Gee, I'll be glad when I get to whittle and carve with it some  lol.

Oh...I can't wait to go fishing again....and it not be like some sort of covert mission lol.

LOL just a fe more days and you will be whittling with your new"1... well you know;).

Yea I will take the light my fire type over other kind to. to start my tinder I only need just a spark or two and it lights my tinder to start with then then I use that lit tinder to light the shavings or fuzz sticks and then that lights the kindling and then rest is history as they say LOL. That is why I love the boy scout hot sparks for $3 you can have a bunch of them around and you start thousands of fires. I just barely scrape them and light cotton, thisle, cattail, and milkweed, really pretty easy.

a 5" Final Option that is a thought LOL LIke in 3/32" or even 1/8" would that still fit in there?

Man, I'm on the edge of my seat...watching the mailbox...knowing it hasn't even left Nebraska yet lol.

I am much more used to the light my fire ones but if I ever actually get the hang of this one it has great potential.

I know 3/32 would fit fine....I'm pretty sure I could make the 1/8 fit even if I had to thin something else out. :D
