I was thinking something from Harbor Freight for under $100.00. I want to modify some fixed blades and if that goes well and I have time maybe make some knives from blanks.
Thanks in advance.

If you really want to go that route get the 1 x 30. Nothing else (besides the disk grinders) at HF will serve your purpose.

I'm with Greg. Do a search in this forum for the 1x30 and you'll find all the good and bad. They do sell a combo with a disk grinder on the side. You might be able to swing the 1x30 and a larger stand alone disk grinder, but read reviews before you buy.

For under $100 the 1x30 is a good bet, or maybe a used 2x42 if you're lucky. I know some people say stay away from the 1x30 but I've seen some neat stuff turned out with it. If you are willing to learn to use it and master its quirks, there is pretty good belt supply and all.

The resident 1x30 master there has already answered. He can prob tell you better than most...

I've made all my knives on a 1x30. If you want you can look through my posted threads and see them. :)

Been using a HF for years and it works just fine. Not a single problem, it runs smooth and true.
