I'm trying to find a decent, bright LED light which runs on AA or AAA batteries for a street or used price of about 40.00. I looked at MiniMag but would like brighter if possible.

Thanks

There are quite a few in the $40-$60 price range and most of them are significantly better than a mini mag lite. Just a few as examples below. Basically, you are looking at a Chinese made, 1 or 2 AA or AAA light. Stick with brands like 4Sevens, Fenix, Olight, etc. Stay away from the cheap, no name Chinese brands.

Go with the Nebo redline tactical flashlight. Have been using it for almost a year. I EDC it and put it through hell and it still goes.

Fenix E21, but its a little big for EDC if thats what you are after. But its a very nice general usage light for not a lot of bucks. You can get them for around $30 shipped on ebay with the "make offer" option.

check Cabela's, Bass Pro, Scheel's, Gander Mountain, or Advance Sports?

Hello. I got this Jetbeam flashlight for my wife's search and rescue pack. It runs off of alkaline AA's or rechargeable AA's. If the latter, I recommend Eneloop AA's. Two simple modes --- low and high.

I find Jetbeam's products to be of good quality.

Also, with a stern warning, www.candlepowerforums.com is the number one discussion forum for flashlight fiends. We call ourselves flashaholics. The warning is because visiting that website can be very hazardous to your wallet.

As others have already posted, there are quite a few choices out there for you.

Regards.

Check out a Colemans at Walmart. They have several that use AA or AAA and reach around 115 lumens. If you dont like those then I would check and see what Fenix has that would fit your needs. Good Luck! Kevin

Thanks for the advice and the warning. My steel addiction has hurt my wallet already, but flashlights would give me something else to read about :)

I like the INOVA flash lights. Look for the ones that take standard AA or AAA batteries, because those are the easiest to find. If the light is going to be sitting, you may want to put Lithium batteries in it. Knifecenter carries some in your price range.

INOVAs were made in the USA, but I don't know any more. I called about getting one repaired, and INOVA sent me a brand new one for free. However, I did receive an email that a new company had bought them out, or something to that effect.

What is the intended use? Car, home, camping, EDC ? I have about as many flash lights as I do knives; addictions.;)

If its for home, car, or even camping the

Streamlight ProPolymer 4AA Lux Div 2

•Powered by 4 "AA" alkaline batteries
•Super high-flux LED provides up to 3,500 Candela (peak beam intensity), 42 lumens (typical)
•Waterproof
•Runs up 4 hrs. at full intensity with 2 additional hrs. of declining usable light
•7"
•7.52 oz.

or

Streamlights ProPolymer 4AA LED
•Powered by 4 “AA” alkaline batteries
•7 ultra-bright 100,000-hour life LEDs
•67 lumens typical with 7 white LEDs, blue LEDs also available
•Runs up to 155 hrs.
•6.5”
•6.3 oz.

I have both and they are excellent lights. The first listed is more of a spot light, very bright, even though it says 42 lumen's it seems just as bright if not brighter than the other. The second one I listed is more of a flood light, once again very bright and a 155hr run time.

Either light is great for home, camping or the car. If its EDC you may want to look at what others have posted. As I said I have lots of flashlights and these are my favorites. They are in the 35-45 $ price range.

Does this actually have a red line which is reflected in the beam?

No. But the red on the outside of the flashlight lights up. Cool little feature.

I use it for work and it is a good survival flashlight to. Brightest setting is 220 lumens and has 4 other setting including SOS and strobe (which last 72hours)

My main use will be carrying in lower cargo pocket which will be reserved for the light. Daily use planned. Need to see in dark corners etc. Will also double as the light I use for a walk after dark.

I got to play with a couple Nebo brand lights the other day at the local hardware store. They are solidly built, good brightness and the modes are easy to access. I see why so many people like them. IMO they are a good choice.

Another good choice are the iTP A series and SA series lights. The A series are Keychain lights that are very compact and bright. They turn on by twisting the head. The Models are A1 (1-CR123A) A2 (1-AA), A3 (1-AAA) and A4 (2-CR123A). The SA series has a rear switch that turns the light on and off. It also has a side switch that allows you to change modes, for easy access to High, Medium, Low, strobe and infinite brightness adjustment (any brightness from the lowest setting to the highest setting). They come with Pocket clips which can be quite handy. The SA1 uses 1-AA and the SA2 uses 2-AA. - There is an SC series also and it's only difference is the use of CR123A batteries.

EagleTac is another good company. They have a bunch of lights in their Personal Line that are between $40 and $50. Found a good deal on a P20C2 a few years ago and gave it to my sister for Christmas after testing it out. I was pretty impressed.

First time I heard of this. Does it feel solid meaning not like a cheaper plastic feel? Pretty bright?
There is no plastic on it, it is stainless steel. So yes it is solid. Not as bright as my P2D but it will light up a room very good and I live rural so it lights up the dark desert good as well, and it disappears in my pocket.

I've been carrying the Preon 2 and I love it, the different modes are handy for me and the hidden functions are nice.
