Please convince me to buy a Microtech Mini SOCOM!

Last night, I had an urge for Mexican food so I decided to go for some real authentic Mexican stuffs, not the usual Tex-Mex stuffs you know. My supplier suggested that I go to the Little Mexican on Buford Highway just north of Atlanta. Among other things I had a Microtech Mini SOCOM (MMS)in my pocket. I ordered a fried burito and they served it with a plastic knife. For crying out loud, don't they know how tough that refried burito is? So I whipped out my MMS and made nice burito bullions out of that burito. The head cook saw my knife and offered to buy it from me but I declined.

Getting back to my rental Mustang I noticed a couple of vartos were trying to do tire rotation from my car to their. I convinced them to leave by just repeatingly flicking open the MMS. After they left, I realized that they have rounded one of the lug nut because they used vise grip instead of a lug wrench. I don't know what the hell they were thinking. Out come the MMS, and after just a few minutes, I neatly restored the hexagon profile of the lug nut by cutting off the excess burs.

Now, could I have done what I did with a Mad Dog or Busse? Yes, I could. But, I did it with a Microtech Mini SOCOM (MMS) and this is why you should buy one. I am not a Microtech employee nor am I part of the ownership.

can't add much after *that* story

my mini socom is my daily carry & i won't part with it for anything. my hands are smaller than average, true; but the mini socom fits them like it was made for me. the full size feels like a machete to me.

fwiw, the action on mine is smooth as whiskey, and has been since day one. when i want to just fiddle with a Sharp Thang (open/close/open/close), this is the one i reach for. uh, yeah, i have a few other Sharp Thangs around; but this is the one i play with.

blade is WAY sharp and has cut everything from bagels to boxes (and a finger--once!). pocket carry is easy and comfy, and i am picky about what i put in my pockets. only thing i'm thinking of doing is filing down the thumbstud a bit. kinda pointy, bites me now and then without permission.

but of course, follow common wisdom and handle one--let the knife itself convince you. my daily carry won't necessarily be anyone else's--if it was, then lots of great makers would be out of work, right?

Yeah, mine's one of the ones that failed the spine whack test, is hard to open, and is a liitle small for my hand. But..... it is also the coolest looking, sharpest, and in my opinion the easiest knife to carry that I own. I don't even use the clip, just drop it in my pocket. keys and change don't seem to hurt it too much. I didn't buy it too let sit on my dresser anyway. This is the knife that usually goes to work with me. I sit and flick while I'm talking on the phone. If I want defense I carry my Stryker or Harpy.

I have a mini SoCom and I like it Ok but, I also have a MT Kestrel and I likes it a lot mobetta. So much that I just ordered another with the black blade from Roger at Bayou Lafourche.

I don`t like minies,so you couldn`t give it to me.I don`t want to waste space, and I have a lot of it.The SOCOM D/A plain edge, clip point is the most usefull. The Nemi is too cool not to have.I have way too many other MT`s.

My comments are base on one-day ownership of the full size Socom. This is my new daily carry knife. I have the clip point, plain finish, plain edge blade. The knife is excellent in construction. The handle seems a little small for me so I can see how the handle of the Mini Socom could be described as too small. I suggest you buy one and you don't like it you can sell it to me for half of the purchase price

My opinion? Mini-Socom = MT Odd Duck

If you want quality in a smaller-sized knife, and have the money to spend, I would suggest something more along the lines of a CRK small Sebenza, a CRK Umfaan, a BM 905 or mini-axis, or something in the William Henry line of knives.

Yes! Drop the burrito...

Good quality, poor grip. Poor grip.

Yeah I'm crazy, but what do you want me to do about it
