I'm a big fan of superglue, or its medical equivalent, Dermabond, but you have to clean out anything you seal with them very well before you close them up.
Ditch the hatchet, and always, always carry a compass.
About the blanket. If you are out in 30F with a blanket alone, I think you're in for a rough night. My most used bag is rated to 20F, and I've survived nights much colder than that due to unexpected bad weather, but they were not comfortable. I don't think you're going to die using the blanket, but it will be drafty, and without a pad it will be cold night.
