I mean yeah, I understand its short run of a particular line of Spyderco knives..but is it:

--A run on knives that are already discontinued and the bring them out again?
--A run of knives that are different then the current offering of a particular line (say Pink handled Native's for example)

--How are you guys knowing about these sprint runs..? Just checking Spyderco's website? From your local retailer? Your online retailer..?

--How long does a Sprint Run last - a week, a month, a day..?

--Is it something you can only buy direct..?

I want in on all this sprint run action I seem to be the last to know about ;-)

It could be either; there's no rule.

The Spyderco site is the most current source of information, but the company also puts out catalog supplements that give further sprint run details.

--How long does a Sprint Run last - a week, a month, a day..?

It's a set number of pieces (usually 600 or 1200), not a specific amount of time.

--Is it something you can only buy direct..?

No, they are usually available through normal retail channels, as well as direct.

Just watch this site or the Spyderco forum to keep up with the wonderful wallet-draining sprint runs. :)

No. Typically a sprint run is either taking an existing knife and changing up the blade steel or handles.

--A run of knives that are different then the current offering of a particular line (say Pink handled Native's for example)

That's basically what a sprint run is.

Website for me. Some others get it through forums and such.

Eh. Not too sure on this one. I believe they make a run of 600 or so (could be 1200, not really sure) and just sell them till they're sold out. However, the D2 Para's have gone from sold out to in stock again.

--Is it something you can only buy direct..?

No. Most dealers would have access to a SKU or two of a sprint run I imagine.

Don't worry about that. I didn't know about Spyderco till about a year after I got into knives. ;)

And of course, someone else jumps the gun by two minutes. :)

It can either be a current or discontinued item. Something is usually different, though. The Manix, for example, is a discontinued model, and it was Sprint Ran in foliage green handles. The Delica, Endura, and Ladybug are current models, and they are Sprint Running in white handles.

Sprint Run is different from Limited Run, though. Limited Runs are produced in smaller numbers, but their production is continuous. Sprint Runs have a fixed quantity, and when they're gone, they're gone.

Continuous up to the point they quit selling. ;) So could mean a very quick sprint like the Swick or a years long thing like the Civilian.
