Hey all

I was wondering if you could help me identify the knife that "started it all". I have veryyy limited info on it, as I only handled it for an hour or so about two years ago!! I found it on a chair where a guest in my hotel had been sitting, and returned it to him when he came back for the night.

I could tell from his relief and thanks that it was a much loved knife, so I'm sure it wasn't a $10 gas station special. (You never know though) Its going to be extra hard though because I don't have pics!! But here's what I remember:

Almost definitely USA made

Full metal handles, yet lightweight (I don't count in ounces though like you guys haha)

Handles had cut outs, kind of like on a gerber paraframe but obviously not the exact same

Pocket clip

Blade length no more than 4" but not less than 3". I'd say 3.5" if I had to bet

Blade style: I honestly don't remember... I don't think it was a recurve, it MIGHT have been a drop point

It was all metal, no g10 or FRN just metal handles, no black blade coating, with a logo I can't remember printed on the blade

Opening mechanism: I THINK it was a thumb stud, I'm almost definite it wasn't a thumb hole

Locking mechanism: I'm not sure, but I think it was a liner lock or a frame lock. It DEFINITELY wasn't axis/lock back/compression/nothing too fancy

Anyway I'm sorry there's no photos but this is the best I'm remembering. If you have anymore questions I can try and answer then let me know!! I figure this is a hell of a long shot, but if you don't try you'll never know! I'm really hoping one of you can help, I've been reading the EDC thread for months hoping to catch a photo haha

Much appreciated

Can you draw a picture of it from memory, or post pics of knives with similar profiles?

Well, I'll play!

Let's start with the M-21:

Haha thanks for playing!! But it's not the crkt m16-21 series sorry

And I'm trying my best to work on a drawing right now, I'm terrible at it... I can get the end of the handle with the cutout alright though. I'll try post it here for you

It wasn't the kershaw vapor either, and not a kershaw at all (I was carrying a cheapie black colt at the time and would have recognised the make)

I know this is the worlds biggest long shot but thanks for trying so far guys! I'll try get that handle drawn..

No but that's an extremely good example of the metallic handle and what the cutouts looked like!!
Is there anything else similar to the gerber paraframe?

This kind of shows what I remember the cutout on the end of the handle to be. My drawing is terrible and so is my memory...... You guys must think I'm totally nuts haha

Edit: that black thing is meant to be the pocket clip...

Haha well dare I say you've met your match in my terrible memory.
There were other cutouts in the handle I'm pretty sure...

Do you remember how many cutouts?

Two? Three? Take a guess.

Also, is that the bottom of the knife in your sketch?

At a guess I'd say two? And yeah that's supposed to be the handle bottom (tip up carry)
It's almost definitely a USA made folder whatever the hell it is

Thanks so much for helping thus far guys!

Buck 296, ATS-34 blade steel, assisted open with safety lock to keep it closed. Love this veritable switchblade BUCK!

^oh my wow that nirk tighe is one crazy knife. None of those are it..... But that first AG Russell Buck Rush rang a couple more bells... It's blade shape is definitely off though

As TheJeepster said, it's amazing how you guys figure this stuff out haha. Thank you again for all your help so far!

I like the Buck Rush for the culprit.

If anybody else is having trouble with Jeepster's links, here it is from Photobucket:

The 296 looks close, too.

Hold the phone. You guys are just too good I don't even know what to say.

The Buck 296 (tempest?) I'm pretty sure is the one. The handle and blade are just screaming at me. The buck rush got me going but the blade was just too pointy, it wasn't right. The 296 is spot on though!

I don't know what to say. You guys are amazing!!!!!!!!

Haha I'm so excited to go research this knife now.... Or are you guys about to tell me it's a pos..? Haha is it USA made?
Either way I'm buying it. Thank you so much again!!! Everyone!!!
