I have some Cabela's bucks to spend. I usually use them for ammo but I decided to get a knife this time. I'm a huge Benchmade and ZT fan. I might carry this knife but not necessarily. I've got some many knives that I could never carry them all This is might just be one for the collection and to use in photos. These are the ones that caught my eye on the Cabela's website (links provided):
  • ZT 0456: I like the look of this one and I've been eyeballing it for a bit.
  • ZT 0909: I LOVE my 0900 and consider it to be one of the best EDC knives in my collection. I actually have two. Since I use this one I wanted a backup in case it gets lost/broken and is discontinued. I'm thinking I might like another Les George design.
  • Benchmade 940-1601: I know this one is overpriced and I would not consider it if not for the discount. I was a late-comer to the 940 but have really come to appreciate the design. Three 940 knives currently grace my collection: -1, -2, and a standard green handle.

Right now I'm leaning toward the ZT 0909 unless someone talks me out of it. They don't have any Spydercos that are interesting to me except the Manix 2, but I've already got two of those.

Do you have the opportunity to get over there and handle them?
I found the 456 to be too heavy for me.
The 940 is nice, but if I were to spend that amount on a 940 it wouldn't be in D2...
The cf/wood is decent looking, but I would think that CF/G10 or solid wood slabs would both look better. The whole modern and classical in one just doesn't do it for me and seems to be conflicting.
------
Have you thought about the:
- Benchmade 484-1 or the griptilians in 20cv
- Southern Grind Bad Monkey or Spider Monkey
- Leatherman Charge TTi, a multitool with a s30v blade and Ti handle accents.
- Helle Dokka

940-1501 I'm not a big zt fan so I may be a bit biased. The -1601 is way over priced, the -1501 is the best for the money IMO

I love my ZT 0909...It is a fantastic knife and very solid. Carries very well, as well as lighter knives its size.

Here it is next to my 4-Max.....

The knives are limited to the ones listed, or at least ones available at Cabela's. I can't use the Cabela's bucks elsewhere. No other blades really caught my eye there, or I already have them.
Unfortunately, I don't know of any ZT dealers near me so I can't check the ZTs out in person. The nearest Cabela's is too far.
I agree that the 940-1601 is too much but I'd be getting it for about $150. I thought it might be worth checking out for that price.
I'd say it will end up being that ZT 0909. Or I could just go my usual route and buy ammo, but I've got a lot of it laying around.

Edit: Speaking of too much, I saw the retail price of the 928 Proxy has jumped to $300
I like my Proxy OK but it pales in comparison to my ZT flippers. I thought $250 was a stretch for it but $300 is nuts. That's used Sebenza territory. You'd think that with so many great flippers on the market Benchmade could have come out of the gate stronger. I got mine on the Exchange LNIB for $185 and that's about where I felt it should be.

I got my Proxy off ebay nib, for 180 shipped. It's a great knife for that price. Probably wouldn't have even bought one, if it hadn't had a two piece handle.

All of the knives I listed in my post above are available on Cabelas website.
Counting the numerous Griptilians as one, there are six other options listed above.

I've got a 484. Honestly, my 940-1 doesn't do much for me so I didn't figure the 484-1 would either. Now if they had the 484-2 with wood scales I might pick that up. Griptilians have never done much for me. I wouldn't mind trying one with Wilkins scales but that's not an option here and I'm just not interested in doing that right now.
- Southern Grind Bad Monkey or Spider Monkey
Southern Grind stuff never seems to ring my bell.
- Leatherman Charge TTi, a multitool with a s30v blade and Ti handle accents.
I'm pretty set on Leathermans (I've been issued several at work) and find that I don't carry them often except my Skeletool CX.
- Helle Dokka
These Helle knives are interesting. I might check one of those out for use in photos but really I'm still mainly interested in the three I listed with maybe the addition of a ZT 0450.

I was a little surprised to see the poll results. I didn't figure the 940-1601 would rank highly because I know people generally think it's pretty overpriced. I actually bought the knife tonight, a ZT 0456. I know that's completely opposite of the poll but it looks like a cool knife and I wanted something a little different and artsy. I've got many knives to carry. Who knows, this might get carried too. I will likely pick up a 0909 in the future too but I wanted this one now.

Cabela's had an extra 10% off and free shipping today so I jumped on it for $128 after tax.

My ZT 0456 arrived and I definitely made the right decision. It is a beautiful knife. It's not as big as you'd like but it's hefty for sure. I doubt it will get carried but I'm sure it will get photographed a lot.

I ended up getting a 0909 off the Exchange and a 0450 at a local store that I stumbled upon. Both of these will be carried and used a lot.
  • The 0909 is a beast it's a great knife but there are few things I would change. The edges are a little sharp and it is VERY difficult to move the liner lock to close the knife. It makes the Spyderco Gayle Bradley 1 seem like a breeze. Closing it with tow hands isn't bad but one hand is cumbersome. I wish ZT had left more of a relief cut in the opposite side to access the liner lock. Honestly, I wish this one was not a flipper. Thumb studs and PB washers would have been perfect to me. The flipping action is good on it though and I like flippers.
  • The 0450 is the opposite of the 0909. I had not seriously considered a 0450 until I acutally handled one today and had no idea how small it is. I immediately liked everything about it. This one will see a lot of pocket time along with my most carried locking knife, the 0900.
  • I also snagged a ZT titanium pen off the Exchange. I love ZT stuff.

The new stuff with my beloved 0900. Two pairs from Sinkevich and George.

These are the ZTs that I carry the most right now but I also use my 0095BW and 0808 a lot. They are currently back at ZT for some work. The 0562 is another great all-around knife.

Congrats on the new goodies. When I bought my 456, I really doubted it (or anything else), would kick the 562CF out of the pocket. But like most new purchases, I usually try them out for at least a few days. The first few tasks and I was hooked. Decided the extra ounce or two was no biggie for such an amazing cutter. I do wear jeans to work, so if in a suit, I may have a different outlook on my edc's.

Congrats! That would have been my choice. I really like the design. I like most of Sinkevichs (sp?) designs.

I don't mind carrying heavy knives, the 0456 is just one for the collection though. I wear a suit to work mostly. The large/heavy knives ride in an EDC bag (let's call it what it is: a purse) and my ALM custom SAK rides in belt sheath. I'll often carry a ZT 0900, 0808, Benchmade 32 Morpho, or something similar in the small lower pocket of the suit jacket.

A Cabela's just opened near me so I got to handle a Benchmade 940-1601 last weekend. I'm racking up more Cabela's points so I see one of those in my future, then I'll have all three knives from the poll :D

I'm definitely glad I got the 0456 though. I don't carry it but I really like having it in my collection. It's like a little piece of machined art.

I did end up getting a Spider Monkey on the Exchange here. Southern Grind's stuff never really appealed to me until I saw this one with copper scales. Overall it is a really nice knife.
