I think I decided on vg-10 as my next blade steel spyderco offers a ton of knives in it. Alright so I currently have a benchmade mini grip, so i'm comparing my next spyderco to it in some ways. I really like how light it is, and how it feels in your hand. Third is the fact that it carrys well in my mechanics work uniform, not too big. But its not a little tiny pen knife either. So im thinking about getting one of these. Centofante 3, caly 3, D'Allara, Delica 4, and Native III. What are you guys opinions on these knives???
Thanks for the help guys.

Well, I own three of these (D4, D'allara, and Native) and will probably add the other two eventually. The D4 is the best overall choice for daily carry. I carry a Rescue every day, but I switch it up in the evening to be a little more classy when I go out. The D'Allara goes to any event Firefighters or Police might attend, the Native if the dress pants are on, and the D4 or E4 most other times. Personally, the Native doesn't feel right to my thumb, just the way my hand is built I guess. Also I find the D'Allara a bit too heavy for some situations (although it is the one I would keep if given an ultimatum). I guess you will just have to buy a few and keep the ones you like.

Caly3 if you want a knife with a finer edge and better slicing, Delica4 if you want a very tough knife, although it will cut quite well also. I've abused a D4 for over a year now and you can hardly tell it's been used, other than the stainless handle being scratched up pretty well. The Caly will hold up well, too, but I wouldn't use mine for quite a few things I've done with my Delica. In the long run, though, I would suggest getting both because they're both excellent knives.

Well i really dont abuse my knives. i just cut with them, i dont pry with them. I wont be batoning them or anything like that. So I guess really I want one that will stay sharper longer, slice better and be a good edc.

I think you'll like the Caly III. If you like FRN too, the Calypso Jr in laminated ZDP-189 is a really good bet, you'll get a very long-lasting edge with this one for a very reasonable price. It is the one I carry today, for instance. (I rotate it with lam. ZDP Caly III, VG-10 Calypso Jr, and S30V UKPK)
VG-10 is an excellent steel, but if you want a long lasting edge, the ZDP-189 is the way to go. It slices very well too, due to it's blade profile.

laminated means there's three layers of steel on the blade: the two sides are here in a softer, more corrosion resistant steel: 420J2, and the ZDP-189 is a thin layer between the 420J2 layers.
Some people think it's better than plain ZDP-189, some people don't. Personally I don't care.

Also, most people here prefer G-10. (personally I prefer FRN with the calypso Jr fish scales texturing)

You have narrowed it down to some very good choices in Spyderco knives. Now, just pick the one you like best. You can not go wrong.

D'Allara is my suggestion. Good for you trying different steels. It is fun to "sample all of the flavors" like Sal says once in a while.

Cheers.

yeah I think I might try to get one in zdp and one in vg-10. Since their both good steels their shouldnt be anything wrong with that.

Alright guys I have another dilemma now. I can get either just the caly 3 w/ g10 handles. Or I can get calypso jr with zdp-189 and the delica 4. Or calypso jr with zdp-189 and the centofante 3.
Which would you guys go with???

Go with the Caly Jr in ZDP for slicing nirvana and then get the WAVED Delica 4. The Caly Jr is considered one of the best slicers in the line up and you can try out one of the super steels (don't let it get dull, frequent touch ups and your shaving hairs off your arm forever). The waved Delica has a little hook on the blade (do a search) that catches on your pants and opens it when you pull it out, nothing opens faster... and is more fun to play with.

I have a mini-grip. I love the lock but the handle is too round, short, and plastic too abrasive. Mine is the D2 Cabela's version and the D2 steel rocks. It has it's fans, I still carry mine, but I think your going to really like your spydies.

Being a mechanic I bet you could get away with a bigger knife if you wanted too. Put the Para-Military on your birthday list, that is the knife I carry every weekend. Big tough slicer should be perfect for you. Just don't pry with the tip.

Yeah im sure I could carry a bigger knife I just prefer the midsized ones.
Anyone have a picture of the waved delica?? The only color I can find is grey.

Caly 3. Excellent ergonomics, low ride clip, full flat grind, takes up very little pocket space and the handle design allows for precise cuts to be made with ease.

Depends on your tastes and preferences in a knife. I have a Caly Jr and I've handled a Cento 3. Both are too light for my likin'. I want my knife to have some weight to it... not massive, but I want to know it's there.

For my tastes, it would be the Caly 3 in G10 (which I have). Then I'd get a plain D4 in VG10 for a tough "failure is not an option" knife (I have some of those, too). The G10 Caly 3 is my fav Spyderco and the most EDC-friendly Spydie IMAO.

Gotta say, though, after rebeveling my VG10 D4 to about 12 dps and adding a microbevel, it slices nearly as well as my Caly 3 and still gives me a very strong blade profile.

Well I narrowed it down too the calypso jr in zdp and the waved delica. Or the caly 3. Is the waved delica as strong a knife as the plain delica??
Would you guys get caly 3 over both the other knifes??

I think so, after all the only removed material is at a place that doesn't seem to be a weakness point.

as dalefuller stated, the weight of the knives is a big difference between the models we've talked about. I love light knives (except for choppers, throwers and balisongs), and the Calypso Jr is perfect for that. The waved (or not) Delica is heavier due to its steel liners, that's one of the reasons I don't carry it often (the blade profile/slicing ability is the main one, there's also the lack of a choil).

Well I prayed about it and im getting the caly 3 in g-10 w/ vg-10. I noticed theres not that many threads about the caly 3. Everybody loves it so much but theres no talking about it. Whats up with that?
