Hello all. When i was younger my best friend had a handful of cool knives, microtechs mainly that i recall. one though i just so happened to recall in a flashback memory recently. the knife was similar looking to an emerson i suppose, fairly symmetrical handle of something looking like g-10 or the sort

the distinctive part i recall was the way the blade was released. about where the claw logo would be on an ultratech there was a ball bearing type metal sphere that was about half way exposed you would press on to release the blade to open as well as working as the blade lock release.

any ideas guys? this is irking me, can't figure it out

These are all that came to mind.

i remember it being more of this profile, not exactly the same mind you. the ball you pressed down was larger than those spyderco's

the handle size and shape were veeeery similar to the emerson i posted and the ball was about where the emerson's pivot screw is but centered.

in relation to the handle the ball was a little smaller than the emerson screw. it looked sort of like a roller ball mouse in concept, but was a ball bearing that was not quite half exposed. could spin around in it's socked but was actuated by pressing in straight down

i'm sure it was some sort of production knife, although may have been a smaller company. was a quality feeling blade as i can remember

Not a Hogue or those Spyderco if mid 90s. Was the ball bearing pushed into the handle or slid back and forth?

I looked up discontinued Spyderco models with a ball bearing lock. There is none that looks like what you're describing. But the lock mechanism sounds exactly like Spyderoco's ball bearing lock.

it pressed straight down, no sliding motion

i remember it being a flipper but maybe it was an auto? or a broken auto? think it was just a flipper though

I remember seeing a knife in that description I beleive I know the exact knife your talking about, but I dont remember the name atm, I will write back if I do.f

Was it an out the front knife, or did it deploy from the side? Might be helpful, because right now, my brain hurts...

Yeah, you said it acted like a flipper....

STUPID internet signals and tablets.

Anyway, did you say that the sphere was larger than the spyderco ball bearing? That would severely limit the possible candidates. Do you remember if there was a separate pivot screw?

All I can think of is something that Paul Poehlmann designed.

the ball in socket button looked like the vulcan but there was no safety and it looked much simpler like the above pictured emerson
