I will use this knife as an edc. I want around a 3 inch edge, would also like the sheath to clip inside my pocket kind of like a folder. I have been using a mini manix for about a year. I love it, but with santa (my wife) coming I would love to try a fixed out. I really like the drop point blade from the graham bros, anyone have one of these? price open to anything under 200. Thanks for all the help in advance.

thanks

Randy

The Rat 3 makes a great alternative to a folder for edc. The BlackJack "small" with hip pocket sheath is also nice. The Rat3 sheath can be stripped down and carried in the pocket. However, IMO I think it is easiest to deploy the knife from IWB cross draw. I have been thinking about having a leather pocket sheath made similar to the blackjack.

I was looking for the same kind of thing and have narrowed it down to these two. New Graham has the best prices I've found BTW

Yes I was also thinking of them same benchmades, they look sweet, and with them prices I could get a sheath made like the Graham bros sheaths. I would like about an inch of the handle poking out. It looks like the sheath on that 211 might fit like that. Anyone have the 210 or the 211?

The 210 is very nice and holds a killer edge (S30V). I like the unpopular leather sheath. I cut the loop off and carry it in my back pocket.

I would recommend the Arkansas Traveler (K-31) from Bob Dozier. Bob or Dan could make the perfect sheath for your needs :D

Chris D. :)

perhaps a boot-knife. they usually come with small vertical-carry sheaths with pants/belt-clips

maybe fallkniven or gerber? choices aplenty

Tarmix 101 that is nice, what steel is it? The links are not working for me. I'm going to surf on over to his site Manually, thanks for the great pic.

wow lovin them Chatles Mays, His prices are very reasonable to. I feel a new addiction coming on (fixed blades).

Wow. This one's actually HARDER given your big budget.

I would recommend a CRKT Ryan Plan B which will cost you $20 plus shipping on Ebay. Has the perfect sheath and clip for what you're doing and has a really useful blade shape. The ones with the black crinkle-coat blades are especially nice. I own mostly Chris Reeves and Customs and the CRKT Ryan Plan B is STILL my choice for a little pocket carry or necker.

Then, spend the rest of the $$ on a bigger custom.:D

David Winston is another very reasonably priced custom maker you should take a look at. The knife below has a 3" D-2 blade, weathered elk scales, and an overall length of only 6 1/8". ($165) http://winstonknives.blademakers.com/

I really like my Ingram #20 (3 1/2") and Charles May knives are also great. But, for a small EDC fixed blade. I don't think you can beat a Dozier. One reason it that a knife that size has a fairly small handle. Ingram and May handles are a little thin. The Dozier is thicker and rounder and gives a better grip for a small knife. The one I have is the K-31 Arkansas Traveler (2 7/8") with a horizontal carry. They also have an "inside the pants" sheath available. Their sheaths are great because they about as small as they can be made. Nice and compact.

I have it on all the time. It leaves me at night when I take off my pants and it's with me again in the morning when I put them back on. I carried a folder for many, many years and still usually sick one in my pocket when I go out. But as time goes by, I may only carry a fixed blade. More comfortable to carry, stronger, fast access, etc. Since 3 1/2" is legal concealment size in my state, I'm thinking about selling the Ingram and ordering the Dozier K-4 Straight Hunter. It's 3 5/8" but don't think I'll get me any hassle for 1/8" inch. Or I could just have Bob and the boys take an eighth off off it.

I also have a Dozier KM-6 Arkansas Toothpick. Not a good slicer or as useful at everyday chores as their hunting line of knives so I'll will probably sell that too.

So, the bottom line: for a 3" FB, get yourself a Dozier K-31 Arkansas Traveler (or a similar sized Dozier). You won't be disappointed. Also, even used, they keep their value better than most knives. That's a plus if you ever need to sell it. Price is $205 so I'd say that hit your budget.

Can't go wrong with any of them, they all make great knives. I am not sure exactly which model of Graham brothers knife you are talking about so I can't comment specifically on it. I will say that the Graham bros. knives I have used have had excellent fit and finish. The one thing I personally did not care for was the thick stock (1/4") they made the knives out of. They hollow ground the edges thin but cutting thicker stuff was a bit of a pain for me.

This may or may not be of any concern to you, and is not exclusive to the Graham bros. knives, they may have changed the thickness of material they use as well. It is just a thought and something to consider on all knives, at least for me when I am purchasing a knife.

Happy shopping and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
