I am lookikng for some small knives for carry. I am doing a lot more knife training w/ martial arts and I have learned how much better it is to have fixed blade knives. Also I have learned that you have your deepest cuts w/ a smaller blade due to leverage. So, I am looking for some easy to carry fixed blade knives w/ a 2.5 to 3" blade.

The problem is that most of the knives that have blades that small also have small handles, which I hate. I am looking for somethign that has about a 5" handle so I can hold that thing good w/ all my fingers. Also, something w/ a larger grip, either that is thicker ovular cross section or that is flatter but broader so I have better control.

One problem w/ knives of this dimension is that it a normal sheath arrangement, where the sheath only covers the blade and it clips on your belt, is not feasible b/c most of the weight would be outside of the sheath...you know what I mean... My point is that this type of geometry usually necessitates more of a neck knife type sheath that is molded over the blade and some of the handle.

I am also looking for something a little less expensive, like around $50 or less.

So far, all I have found is a discontinued SOG Topo Contour...

Thanks

The wolf pup, little byrd and that bark river knife pictured all have handles too small. I am looking for something w/ a big handle. That way I have maximum leverage and the ability to turn the knife in media. I would also like something double edge w/ a sort of ofset handle.

I like the Szabo Felony Stop, but would like something w/ a beefer handle and not necessarily a palm knife. I just like some girth on the grip or a little drop at the back so I can turn the knife and make a comma cut.

Ok, I think I have a good one. If it is not a custom, or a Karambit style knife...How about the new Condor "bushcraft". They have two small wallnut handled knives, I think it is the bushcrafter. I believe they can be had in 2", 3", 4" blades with nice full handles. Hey, its a thought!

Backhawk Kalista,
Tops FGX (long handle),
Tops Devil's Elbow XL,
Tops Wolf Pup XL,
Fred Perrin Mid-Tech Bowie,
Mantis TA-2 Seymore.
Just to name a few. Also, don't ever underestimate the power of the Emerson or Perrin Mid-Tech Lagriffe.

Landi PSK.

I traded a Mini Canadian for one. The Landi is just as stout but has a fuller handle on it.

There are dozens, maybe hundreds, of sellers of bare blades. Find a blade you like, and install a grip according to your own notions.

I have a Finnish Wood Jewel "Carving Knife" that has a 3" blade and 4 and 1/4" handle. They for for $49 from Ragnar. He's out of stock at the moment, but he'll get some more in at some point, I assume.

The same site carries inexpensive Mora's with 2 and 1/2"+- blades with full-size handles.
