Please help me pick a new EDC knife for my rotation. - Pictures

Compared to my other knives that I currently own the SOG wouldn't last but a couple of days using it like I use my knives. I work at a small packaging supply place selling packaging supplies to small businesses and individuals. I probably use my knife 50 times a day to cut cardboard, tape, compressed foam, plastic sheeting, and hard poly based strapping. I torture my knives and the SOG plain sucked comparatively. I have stepped up my budget and currently use two ZTs (350 in S30V and 550 in S35V) and a Benchmade Griptialian. I still need to sharpen my knives once a month or so but the SOG wouldn't last two days. So maybe for everyday tasks it was fine, but for my use, it was horrible. It did deploy fine and I didn't even mind the cheap feeling handles so much but what I did mind was the blade play and the edge holding ability. For 50 dollars I think a used BM Grip or a Kershaw Blur especially in S30V is a better choice. I would guess that a cold steel would be a better choice due to a different heat treatment on their AUS8. JMHO from my personal experiences only.

Ahh if only cold steel made assisted blades :(

The 0560 is a great knife, but it's very big and chunky, feels good in the hand and is an excellent user that can take anything. However, the size is an issue and I didn't really like the texturing on the titanium. Smooth, and excellent knife. But, I wouldn't get it, I just didn't like the way it handled all that well, big, rough.
I do want the ZT 0560CBCF though, The steel, smoothness, materials, and how it feels over the standard 0560 made me fall in love with it.

The Strider SnG is likely the best Strider out there. It's not too big and not too small. Awesome ergos, great looks, tough as nails, and a great warranty. I personally prefer the CC over the Lego or GG. While all of them are great, the Lego and GG are a little rough. Not to mention they're flat compared to the CC. My only issue with my SnG was that the big lock bar cutout was in a place that always got stuck on my pocket and made it difficult to put in the pocket and to pull out of the pocket. That's the whole reason I got rid of it. The CC is a bit more rounded for better grip in my opinion, smoother feel, and the lock bar cutout doesn't seem to get in the way as much. You really can't go wrong with the Strider, it's a tank, however, it could be a bit thick for every EDC task you may need it for.

The Sebenza, is a classic for a reason. It is literally the perfect pocket knife. It's classy looking and holds a lot of cutting power behind it. It's relatively thin and light for easy carry, great ergos, the insingo blade is perfect for EDC, the fit and finish and tolerances on this knife are perfect. While the Sebenza looks classy and really is, it was made to work. You can use it for just plain EDC tasks and for harder use. It makes the perfect all around EDC, handling anything and everything you need. Thin enough for slicing and delicate work, thick and tough enough for the harder tasks.

For me, the Sebenza wins. It's perfect and beats the Strider in fit and finish and tolerances. It also wins for being the most versatile of the 3 you mentioned.

If you really want a big beefy blade, go for the ZT 0560cbcf, you can't beat the steel, materials, and feel of this over the standard 0560 and the Strider. It's smooth, buttery, beautiful, made with top notch materials, and still a hell of a work horse.

So really I would narrow it down to the Sebenza and 0560cbcf. Both are beautiful knives made to handle all of your EDC needs, made perfectly, smooth, and wonderful. All around EDC - Seb for me. Big Beefy Beautiful and still a good EDC - 0560cbcf.

Glad you like the Trident!

But I gotta ask...OP is asking for suggestions among three mid- to high-end production framelocks ($250-500) all with kinda exotic steels, and you suggest the 50 buck, AUS-8 Sog Trident?

I trust your call that it's an excellent knife, but how do you feel it "fits in" with the three in the original post? It seems kinda out of place, in context. Just curious!

That's ok Marcinek, it's just the "recommend me a $50 knife" and "get a sebenza" in reverse kind of exchange. :D

I have a large insingo with micarta. I am very pleased with the knife. I think you should go with the insingo. If you don't, it sounds like you'd regret it. But beware it won't be your last CRK! It rides in the pocket very well for the size :)

I just got my trident yesterday and I was disappointed. I had a SOG visionary and it was a great little knife. I lost it so i wanted to try a different SOG. The trident seemed harsh in my hands. The visionary could be deployed with the thumb or with a wrist flick if the arc lock was pulled back slightly. I liked that ability. The Trident can not be deployed in that way. The Trident spring is stiff and my thumb is sore from a couple days of opening and closing. I expect I will get used to that. It just seems "cheaper" than the visionary. If it didn't come in a blister pack I would have returned it. I just bought my first benchmade today (griptillian) as a result and will probably either use the trident when doing down and dirty work or I will give it to my step son.

I know what you mean and have felt the same way. The Trident's only redeeming quality is that they are light. The overall feel is cheap but they do function quite well. I'll admit its thick, like having a Snickers bar clipped in your pants. I must confess even though its a cheap SOG, I still have a slight fondness for them. A much better knife although not an AO would be SOG's Spec Elite. I much prefer it over all of SOG's offerings.

Let me throw another option in here that may not fit: the buck 110. I got one recently and it is pretty much top of the line. Maybe not comparable to others but still great.

I ave recently heard the sebenza is awful from like 2 people. I'll try to find links (as stated below I can't seem to find them now...misread I guess...)

Haha the more I search the more I believe I must have Misread something... Odd. I thought it was on this forum but searched with google.

The more I search the more I want one :p

Good knife. I would go with the sebenza 21 large if you get the sebenza. Idk where I heard it was bad but I guess it's not reputable anyway. A drop in a bucket with a ton of other great reviews
