Hey Folks,
I was sort of "out of action" on the forums during the unvailing of the Sifu. I've really come to like it looking at pictures and such. I like big folders, (having carried a Military for years), and am contemplating getting a Sifu. I also like the finger grooves but have seen pictures of where some forumites have smoothed them out. I for one really like finger grooves but ONLY if they fit you properly
I have read most of the responses concerning this knife and they seem to be very favorable. I have an old style Carnivore and like it though I like the new style lock release better.
I've read the complaints of grittiness in opening and closing and I guess some folks have had problems with clips stripping out. Are there any other shortcomings this knife may have? How easy or hard is it to resharpen? I presently do not own any recurved blades, (it's the one thing I DON'T like about the Sifu), and have heard they are hard to resharpen. Also does anyone own a Carbon Fiber scale version, (carbon fiber layered over G-10),? That's the model that interests me the most.
Any input will be appreciated. Oh yeah, one last thing, I've heard someone is going to produce Talonite-bladed versions and that there are other versions planned. Any info on these versions or other blade configurations planned?

I have three

. Two of the BF handground and one BF Black-T. I haven. sharpened my yet so I can't answer that question. But Spyderco's sharpmaker should make short work of it if you do your part.

None of mine showed up here gritty. I did take one apart to check and found no shavings, etc.If you get one and take it apart watchout for the little coil spring that is under the slide. It likes to go flying.

The SIFU G-10 is next on my list to get. I am keeping my eyes open for other neat variants.

It's a fine line between "a hobby" and "mental illness".

Gene,
I have a BF Black-T Sifu & its action was very smooth right out of the tube - no grittiness whatsoever. The blade swings open easily with a push on the thumb stud. Hardly any wrist action at all is needed. I close it by simply releasing the lock & then turning it edge-down in my hand to let gravity have its way. Actions simply don't get much smoother than this.

You're right about the finger grooves -- whether or not they are comfortable for you is a matter of hand fit & personal preference. FWIW, they fit my medium-large size hands just fine & I have no intention of smoothing them out.

Dwight is right about sharpening. Although I haven't felt the need to sharpen my Sifu -- another endorsement in itself

-- I have had several other recurved blades. The corner of a Sharpmaker's stones or other round ceramic rod sharpeners should work just fine.

If you love big folders, you have got to get a Sifu! No one who loves big folders should pass up this knife.
I just got one this week and it is the without a doubt, the most awesome folding knife you may ever hold short of some $20,000.00 artknife. The thing is a TANK! But it is so cool because it rides soooo well in the right front pocket. It feels just like carrying a Military or any other 4" bladed folder, to me anyway. I'm awaiting to hear news of the legality of carry so I can, hopefully, carry it full time.
Oh, BTW, if your not convinced how much I like this knife, check out the signature.

Let me tell you about my SIFU!

SIFU is bear to sharpen

. That Radical recurve do not make sharpening any easier.
The initial bevel was to blunt for sharpmaker. It took well over three hours to reach the edge (I washed the brown stones trice). Sharpening should be easier in future. This problem with too blunt edge may not be problem in production SIFU. Mine is one of the handground ones.

Otherwise its wery nice knife and grooves are suitable for medium and large hands. I have used it only lightly and thus I don't know if grooves are comfortable in hard use (chopping two dozens of gang members into pieces etc).

Right now it's the very best production fighting folder made. It just plain ROCKS.

All of the Rekats I' ve handled had abrupt edge angles. They do need a slightly larger bevel. A good honing on some diamond sleeves (or rods/ stones) should get the "proper" bevel in short time. I' ve done so successfully with the Pioneer series and the Ultility Neck knives.

Another vote for the Sharpmaker for recurves.

The SIFU is a great knife. I have one of the handgrounds. I suggest you check out the finish on any that you buy, there have been problems. If you buy one mail order make sure you can return it if you find a flaw.
