Guys and galls, I'm in a bit of a bind. Have my eyes on either a 16.5" WWII or an 18" Sirupati:). But I need to fixup a car:(. What can I do? HIKV is kicking in really hard and I'm afraid that soon, I'll break down and buy one of those wonderfull Knives. It's really bad, am looking at Car repair manuals and Khukuris at this moment and don't know how muck longer I can hold off on sending the email to Uncle Bill. Please, I need your help. aarrrrgg

Don't ask me. I've considered posting an ad saying: "will trade guns for Khukuris." And I don't sell or trade any of my firearms.

I feel your (HIKV) pain Wildmanh,
The mailman just delivered my third brand new HI Khukuri in about as many weeks. It's a sweet little BAS by Sanu. Small enough to fit in my Camelbak "Hawg", but stout enough to split a skull, er, I mean kindling.............
My two cents, fix the car and hang tough. Between now and the time you do get to order your khuk you might decide a 25" Kobra is better than either the 18" Siru or the WWII, or maybe not.
Side note, I am once again properly armed. Nestled in the box with my BAS was a beautiful little Kagas Katne. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU UNCLE BILL!!!!! I am truly humbled. I do dearly love these useful little knives.
Hey there you go Wildmanh, get a Kagas Katne to temporarily abate your HIKV and you can still fix the car. I kid you not, when I got the proverbial "triangular box" today, and saw what was in it, I immediately broke out my hones. The BAS, nice as it is, had to wait it's turn until my Kagas Katne was honed hair popping sharp, and polished like a twinkling jewel. "Paper Cutter", smile when you say that pilgrim <grin>

Sarge,

How's that Hawg? I considered getting one about 8 years ago when they first came out. I'm a big slurper and at the time it offered a 108 oz. bag. I just couldn't handle the thought of something hot & sweaty on my back all day. (did I mention that the reason for my slurping is that I sweat like crazy?)

wildmanh = hang in there, buddy. Here's my advice: the more you want it, the better it is when you get it. Fix the car and till the neighbor's garden...heck, do the whole neighborhood if you have to;)...then when it comes, it will be your sweet baby, your pride and joy.

Then go beat the heck out of it on some trees.:D:D

RE: "Hawg"
Pen, the Camelbak Hawg is a great piece of gear. You've got enough room to carry essentials, but even fully loaded it's not going to slow you down much. The high tech fabrics breath/wick perspiration pretty well, but sorry, you're still gonna get a sweaty back. Lots of people stick the water bladder in the freezer (don't fill completely full, ice expands) in really hot weather out here in Texas. The ice helps keep your body cool, and your body heat helps turn it back into drinking water. I don't do that because I don't want to wait for the stuff to melt if I need a lot of water in a hurry. Instead, I use a couple of small blocks of that refreezable "Blue Ice" stuff, keeps my water cool and readily available if I need it all at once.

The pain is bad right now. But knowing that you all are there and supportive really helps. Right now my only Khuks are my trusty old 15" AK and a broken Villager BAS.

Pendentive, sounds like you go through water like I do. 4 quarts of water might hold me on a long hike IF the weather is nice. If it's hot I might drink 6 to 7 quarts.

Sylvrfalcn, congrats on the new Blade. May it serve you well.

I know exactly how you feel. The pictures that are posted here both torment and sustain me during dry spells. But you can't really relax and enjoy anything if your basics aren't covered(car repairs, food, shelter, etc.). It will be all the sweeter when you can have a new khuk without worrying if your car is going to make it up another hill. Beleive me, I know. ;)

Um, how about thinking of getting the car fixed up real good so you can drive it to Reno and take home a trunkload of stuff?

It could be worse. I drive up to Reno tomorrow to see a Doctor and will have to ( unless I find a really good excuse ) drop in and visit with Uncle with a paid up credit card in my pocket! It's excruciating to sit there and try to maintain a conversation with Uncle while trying desperately not to scope out whatall Yangdu is packing up to send out, or what those things laying all over the carpet are. Such exquisitely sweet torment!

I feel your pain. :D

Even between the same models I want a heavier one of these or a lighter one of those...

It would be easier if the kamis ran a CNC shop in Nepal. Then I'd only need two of each. One fer usin' and one for looking at.

Are you sure you'll stop at just one?

I don't know anybody here with just one...;)
There are many with 10,
Some with a 100,
And one loony approacing 1000  ;)

I've gotta see the doc myself today, Rusty, but should have everything done by noon. And we'll have to ship around two o'clock but should be back by 3. Just in case you haven't left yet and have time to read this.

IS this for real? The cave has 1000?! Some here have 100?

I have only 3, but two are not users. I think of them as backup for my AK, the coin cutter. I'll be sore pressed to use the beauttiful YCS at all, butits so darned pretty it makes me want to carry it!

I think Yvsa's knife is just right. I'm kinda thinking he did it on purpose. That thing is not just for show. He made a user. And he made it beautiful with a one in a million style but not so pretty it couldn't be used. Bill's flagship Khukuri is for show. Yvsa's always makes me think of the expression; "If I only had one knife..."

Ferrous, you're in a tough spot. I wouldn't know what to do.

..The YCS is built for use. It is thicker and more massive than my 18" AK with a vicious edge bevel. Also, 1/2 inch at the spine says "use me please!"

I guess it'll get its day in court when the sparkle wars off, but I'd hate to ding up the inlays or anything. I guess I'll get over it.

Yvsa? Any comments on your namesake khuk? How did you come upon this wonderful design?
My other khuks have a level (or flat, non curved) space as or near the striking area, but the YCS just gracefully keeps on kurvin'. Puts the COP near the belly, and the slice pulls steadily along to the tip, eh?

Yep, but they're all different just like the rest of the khuks. Mine except for maybe one are thinner than 1/2" thick at the spine.

I wanted an older looking khuk as I really am in love with the old fully curved khuks.
Sanu got it about 85-90% of what I wanted. I prefer the old style convex edges without the huge and what I consider ugly edge bevel the new ones have as well as the extremely curved handles the old khuks have.
However the old curved handles are a bear to make as I put one on the one I have with the hammer dingy finish.
At some time or another us men started decorating our weapons and tools so I decorated the YCS.
Aggravates me it does when I hear, "It's too pretty to use." That pretty pattern welded Damascus Bowie on another thread wouldn't have a chance of a snowball in hell with me. I would put it to use in a heartbeat!!!!
Now I have to agree the H.I.Kothimoda may be too fragile to use for heavy duty work with its bone handle and it's silver laden scabbard even though Bura made it to use.
But then again one of our quite famouis lurkers has a beautiful bone handled AK Villager with an extensively engraved blade that has seen use in many parts of the world with no harm done.
Sure wish HI would make the Kothimoda blade available with a standard handle and the old Shop 2 convex edge, make one helluva workhorse!!!!

I was thinking of starting a thread called, 'why not convex edges?" After the things you've taught me.

Why can't we have a choice of edges with HI? Are those edges harder to make?

I am right about your YCS, beautiful, but not too much to prevent use. That is what you intended.
