In keeping with the spirit of many of the forumites here it seems that we should pay someone for allowing us to post here- where do we send the check? C'mon guys, let's show our enthusiasm for this forum with our wallets! Don't wait for a subscription service, who knows how long we'll have to wait to shell out the cash for that! Let's once again let our money do the talking. To hell with discriminate consumerism! Sign your name on the line, remember? The sooner you start the less chance you have of a waiting period.

I would much rather bladeforums raise money via raffles, knife auctions, and other merchandise sales than to charge subscriptions or membership fees. I doubt many knife dealers would complain if normal production knives were available from bladeforums at list price, with the profits going to the forum. Mike has previously said the forums will always be free, so I know it's not an option to charge for the current forum (yeah Mike!).

What Mike said.

Let me make this 100% clear:

The Forums will always be free to use.

We aren't stupid. It would be instant suicide for this site to ever charge people to access the forums themselves: it would kill the appeal and would probably shut down the site overnight.

In regards to the online magazine, here's why we'd want to charge for access to it: Let's face it, nobody does anything for free. If you want good reviews and information, someone somehow has to pay for it. Ideally, we'd like to start paying you guys to write up reviews. We'd be happy to do the photography, but we need fresh perspectives and new information. So, somehow or another we have to pay for the articles, especially if they come from the "big guns" in the industry. A small subscription fee would allow us to produce content, and make sure that the authors are compensated as well.

We'd like for this site to start paying for itself, and if it makes more, well so much the better, because the profits would just get turned back into the site. More knives to give away, lower prices on tshirts and other products, etc etc etc.

You get the picture, right?
