That's about it. I don't have a wheel for making a hollow grind, so I am looking for pics, along with what diameter.

Also comments about why you prefer a certain diameter

Thank you.

The bigger the wheel the taller the grind for most folks. If you're only wanting to make small hunting type knives you can get by with an 8'' wheel which is what I have. If you plan on doing larger, taller, knives then you may want a bigger wheel. You can take an 8'' wheel and walk the grind up higher but it takes some practice. A 10'' or 12'' wheel would be ideal I think for various types of knives. Its what I'm going to next.

Daggers are best ground on smaller wheels, IMO. It helps preserve the crispness of the lines, and keeps the blade stiff with a thick center rib or ribs. Thin daggers are almost entirely stabbing weapons, so a steep grind is not a detriment.

Milled fuller, IIRC 2" wheel for edges too. Maybe 4".

2" contact wheel for the fullers, with 4" hollow grinds on the edges

4" hollow grinds

But what can also look nice and cut better, on a wider or leaf blade, are 8" hollows.

On a narrow single edge such as a folder, I like to use an 8" wheel.

On a larger single edged blade such as a fixed skinner, I really prefer to go with 12" hollows or flats.

All of them are fun and challenging, I guess the point I'm trying to make is that it is the blade design and projected use that should dictate the grind radius. A good all around starting point though, is an 8 or 10.

Beautiful work, and thank you both for the feedback.

This has a 1/4" thick spine and ground with a 8" wheel.

10 inch but i would like a 12 or 14. I feel 10 is quite versatile, not sure I would use anything smaller on most of my style of knives.

I am with you. Looking back I should have gotten a 10" not an 8". I have used the hell out of my 8" and it's ground ALOT of blades but I feel that it's on the verge of to small.
