Hey Guys,

I'm still working through the downgrade. Messages posted since the upgrade will not show up until I can get all of the threads updated again (a long, drawn out affair), so please be patient.

Speed should be back to normal though.

Thanks for your support.

Thanks for getting things back up, Spark. Anty idea if the speed thing can be worked out with the upgrade? I liked a lot of what it had and would sure like to see it work out.

Keith.

Hey Spark,

I can only imagine the nightmare you are going through on our behalf. Tell Mike I said you can have the day off tomorrow.

Spark,

I know you've put in more than a few extra hours over this. We all appreciate that very much. A day without bladeforums.com is like a day without rain. (Remember, I'm from the Portland, Oregon area.)

Thanks.

Thanks Spark. I didn't find the upgrade to be all that slow, but I didn't like the look or that lame rating system!

By the way, i told Ron to tell you to tell Mike that you can have the day off (I know, I am too generous) but if Mike has a problem with that, tell him to bother Ron, not me!

While I'm far from being a software guru, I strongly suspect the cause of all the problems was somehow linked to the 5 star rating achieved by a certain maker located in the middle of the Pacific

Your efforts are truly appreciated guys!

Am glad to have the speed back. The new stuff was pretty slow coming thru my skinny pipe.

I'd like to voice another concern about the new software, as well as chime in negatively about the rating business.

The deal of using member #s instead of names may give us the ability to change names, but that seems to me a very small gain in comparison to losing the ability to search by names. Particularly when trolls and their ilk have used multiple IDs, including #s, which we may not have access to, except via a name search. Fishface 5 has changed names/ID's and is considerate enough to remind all what his original handle was. I like that a lot better than losing the name search capability. Sometimes I've found a thread I wanted only because I remembered the name of someone who posted, though I may not have seen any posts from him/her for days or weeks. Will be just SOL looking for such posts.

I have trouble remembering names, but I know I'll have trouble remembering my own #, let alone any others.

Have said enuff.

Just kidding. Seriously though, I had a long talk with the UBB guys and expressed my great displeasure with how 6.0 works. Hopefully they listened.

Never upgrade software... And does there appear to be a few bugs left over in a few spots? Kinda strange. Oh well.

Spark,

Once again thanks for keeping this place in order. I am glad to have the old forum back. The forums menu on top in this release has version 6.0 beat by at least two clicks.

I know I'm fairly new here, but thanks for taking the time to sort this out Spark, the thought of not being able to check the forums first thing in the morning, around lunchtime, then again last thing at night is just too scary to contemplate.

Keep up the good work.

as i was one of the public beta testers of the new software i can tell you all that the new version rocks...

BTW the rating stuff can be turned off via the CP... no problem here.

@ Spark, i know you anger, i read all your concern at the infopop support forums... i can tell you one thing, such a big board like this will kill your server in no time if you change to VB which is the only one that is similiar to this one...

MySql is not stable enough to handle that much traffic, trust me. when it comes to BIG boards only the UBB can handle this.

What a relief,

Thanks a lot Spark! I hated the new look. I could not even click on the edit button to see how someone posted something, it said only the admin. could edit posts. Well, it's good to be back. Thanks again Spark.

Spark, thanks for putting in the overtime to get Bladeforums up and running again. Tell Mike that it is ok with me for him to give you a raise.
