Thanks for reading. Very good point. I wouldn't call it survival camping --- I do carry a tent, and no need for shelter building. I will probably use the knife mostly for fire and food preparation.
I got by, years ago and long before my enlightenment, with my late Dad's old WWII KaBar... then a Western 66 Hunting Knife bought by my mother for me with S&H stamps - LBJ was prez. I now know what great choices for a camping/bushcraft knife are - and have an assortment, see the examples below. The interesting thing is that while all I had was the KaBar - later a Buck 119 - I was content. They are still great choices - totally functional, widely available, and frugal , costing a fraction of your budjet. Of course, my BRK&T Boone is nice, too - as is the older Marbles Ideal.
Who am I kidding? I'm still looking for the perfect companion fb for camping. The RC4,5,6 series looks interesting...
