Please sell me on emerson!!

JB, I am not going to 'hard sell' you on an Emerson. The moment you have one in hand, is usually the moment when people get what an Emerson is all about. Where QC and reliability are concerned, I have had no problem with any of my Emersons.

The Para 2 is a fine knife in it's own right, but it is not a 'tactical' design as is the Emerson. You are the best judge of what you need, but I suspect you will end up owning both.

I suspect you are right!

That is a beautiful knife! Do you use it for utility? How well does it work?

If you're talking to me about the 7V, yep, I use it for utility. Works wonderfully -- does everything I've ever needed it to do. A lot of people don't like tanto blades for basic use, but, while it is a "tactical" design, I've never had a usability issue in any situation. Heck, I carried an HD-7 (same design in a titanium framelock) since 2005, every single day. Decided to finally swap it out, and the 7V is great, plus I love its double V grind. Of course, I collect 7s. They're my favorite pattern.

Thanks all for the input. I'm going to pull the trigger on a mini commander when my taxes come in at the end of the month. I hope to god there is one available in plain edge/ stonewash finish, so I don't have to wait months or spend more to go directly through Emerson! And eventually I'm going to get a Para 2 also, cuz I KNOW i'll love it. But i figure, while I have the extra play money from taxes, I can use this opportunity to try the commander!

I only have 1. I have a mini A-100. All I can say is it's got a tough look. My wife calls it my "scary scary" knife. Also made in the states with a story behind brand. nuf said.

Ah yes, the SCARY BLADE scenario. I can't count how many times I've pulled out a 3 inch blade and got the comments: "Why?," "Big knife," "Scary blade," "Excalibur," etc. Just wait until I whip out a Commander!
