so I'm thinking about starting to do some takedown knives and other blades with butt caps. There's a couple in particular I don't understand how they work. For instance, the kind that don't appear have any sort of tensioning mechanism. Like a threaded piece to screw down the butt cap onto the handle, holding it in place. For instance this one:

The ones without a visible capture nut, just a flat butt cap. I especially like the ones that follow the curves of the stag handle. Are they just epoxied into place with some pins? Is there a threaded piece welded on the inside that would thread onto the bottom of the tang? One that you could just thread until it's tight, using proxy, and then file in the grooves to match the stag?

Another one that I'm interested in is one that J. Doyle uses a good amount. It uses a capture screw it looks like. It fits into a recessed area on the butt. I'm just not sure how the actual threading works. Especially when there isn't a groove for a flathead screwdriver, to tighten it down. How the hell do you even cinch it down, so the handle holds tight to the tang.

If anyone would like to share your methods for takedown knives or butt caps/pommels, I would love to hear it.

This is a good book on the subject
