Please sign Canadian knife import ban e-petition

WOW!!! :[

I inquired about buying a Spyderco Delica 4 Zome S30V, from a U.S.A. dealer:

Me:
----

"Hello,

I have done a lot of research, and I’m confident that Canada Customs will allow this knife to come through their system, because of it’s locking configuration.

Please advise, ASAP (before your inventory runs out), that you are willing to ship one of these to my address. I will take full responsibility, if the knife is seized, and not hold you liable, in any way, shape or form.

Thank you very much,
Sincerely,
XXX"

Their response:

"Hello,

Thank you very much for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, I have indefinitely suspended shipping folding knives to Canada. I understand you are willing to take responsibility for the shipment and I agree, this will probably pass through customs, but it just isn’t going to happen. Hopefully, this mess with Canadian customs will get resolved soon.

Thanks again,
XXX"

"XXX,

Your decision only enables the unlawful ruling that a government department has established, when their only role is to enforce laws set forth by a government consisting of actual voted in individuals.

We Canadians can sign a petition, to tell our government what we think, and contribute to Go Fund Me, to help lawyers fees, to try to help our cause.

Another way to show we are not going to just sit back, is to keep buying knives from the USA, when they are not available in Canada.

In disagreement with your decision,
XXX"
Well that sucks for us!:(

Is this a BF supporting dealer? In any case, I would like to know who the dealer is so I can avoid giving them my business in the future regardless of what happens moving forward.

There are actually 2 dealers that have the knife I want. One has it documented, right on their page, that they are no longer shipping folders to Canada. The one that doesn't plainly state it, is the one I contacted. I'll PM you their names.

Thx.

I understand them being hesitant, but if you are willing to take all of the risk? Different story IMO.

From the dealers perspective they'd have to create a legal form and get you to sign away your rights to reclaim your $ in the event of a seizure (or something like this) because even if you 'said' you'll take all the risk does not mean anything if the worst case happens and then you go back on your word and either file a claim with your credit card company or PP (depending on how you paid), in which case you'd most likely get refunded and then the retailer is at a loss.

They're just covering their asses. I hate to say it but I'd do the same.

However, as a US retailer I would allow you to buy if payment/shipping could be arranged with delivery to a USA address, that I would help supply if needed... then I'd ship to that address for the USPS delivery confirmation as my backup, and I'd then drop-ship to you via personal mail not related to my business for you to then take the risk as you would have no recourse due to the order being placed by you and confirmed as delivered.

Considering that we live in the electronics age, an emailed form could be signed and returned, vs a face to face meeting.

My point was and still is that these U.S.A. dealers are hurting our cause even more!!!

I appreciate the offer, but I may as well have an American friend purchase it, then have them ship it to me.

Dealers in the USA can be pretty insular. They have a huge captive audience and shipping internationally is something not all want to take on.

Start a thread in the GBU on what particular Delica you're trying to find. Maybe someone can suggest another source; and since in the GBU they can mention other dealers beside the sponsors.

Right, but this refusal to ship seems to be because of the recent Canada Customs arbitrary decision.

FYI - I have done a lot of online searching, and can find only two dealers, and neither will ship.

What is GBU? Thanks :)

Perhaps I missed it, but maybe the dealer(s) could at least be invited to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign?

Keep the faith, guys!

And here is the response I just got......... :(

"Hello,

If you want to pay using Western Union or MoneyGram, I would consider shipping to Canada, but Paypal/CC/DC are all no go. Of course, paying via WU/MG carries it’s own risks. Do you know/trust XXX enough to submit payment via WU/MG? There are also fees that are charged to you for sending payment via WU/MG.

Thank you very much,
XXX"

I have to drive up there later this week. Now I'm thinking I should just carry a traditional of some sort, or maybe a SAK. All of my usual carry knives fail the ridiculous customs standards now, I think. I haven't been searched in ages, but I have been searched before, so I wouldn't want to chance it.

Yes, more signatures!

It only takes a minute to do. It's unfortunate our government can put a damper on things when it largely appears to be a nonsense law, that will almost certainly prevent zero criminal activity.
