For average customer difference between S30V and *other* steels is subtle (with Spyderco and their excellent HT). Every blade steel chip/roll/etc after contact with hard particles (sand when making feather sticks/batoning, eventualy hit rocks when you cut small tree/bushings blade-to-the-ground, metal staples when cutting boxes, etc) but S30V is wide available and nothing to worry about when you get few chips on it: just resharpen, for rare blades it is not so easy :) Every blade steel must be sharpened or touched up time to time, so for this point of view I prefer steels with moderate edge retention and ease of sharpening: I prefer keeping sharpest edge with minimum maintenance task and there's S30V is the best suiting and widely available steelЖ just strop it once per week and it's ok. Of course IMHO :)

Yes, I generally agree. The differences between S30V and other more premium steels are subtle to most folks. My first Para 2 is the S30V version and it never felt less than awesome. But specifically, for the Para 2, there's CPM-M4 and CPM-S90V/CTS-20CP available as upgrades and I think they're well worth it.

well guys it is Monday and it came. I would like to give a first impression on the knife. first of all I love it, the knife is perfect for EDC. I carried sebenzas for 5 years now and I have to say the compression lock is giving the frame lock a run for its money. The para 2 came sharper than any sebenza I have ever owned. I do think the sebenza is more solid, but the spyderco is more carry friendly. I know this is becoming a sebenza against para 2. the sebenza is easier to clean. the thing that gets me the most about the para 2 is how fast I can open the knife. that will make it better for me at work. as far as the grip, the para 2 is the best. These are just some thoughts. I will write more when I have some carry time.
thanks for the help guys

What makes this knife great is the attention to detail, the fit and finish. Mine was rock solid from the factory and the blade was perfectly centered. I love it!!

I prefer the Para 2 to my CRKs, primarily due to the superior ergos. It's much easier to deploy and fits the hands very securely and comfortably. And if you get one of the Sprints, the blade steel is much better.

The pivot is not as precisely machined like a Sebbie and it may need some adjustments to get it to your liking. But just about every non-CRK knives are like that. :)

agreed,I have sevetal sebenzas ,but I carry my para 2 because I like it better.

I've gotten a couple knives since I first got my Para 2, but have carried the Para 2 far more than any knife. When I go to grab a knife for the day, there's an 85% (or better) chance that I'll grab the Para 2. There's just something about it that keeps me (and others) coming back time and time again.

Is the M4 a future Sprint run? I remember hearing a rumor of M4 but don't remember seeing anything definite.

M390 is already taking preorders from bento...should be killer.. maybe even better than CTS-20CP depending on finished product

if its 61 it will have same edge retention if its 60 it will have less. Regardless it will be more corrosive resistant ( not that I have seen any rust on my 20cp ,even after sweating bullets with it in my pocket) and a little less tough

Hey Ankerson any speculation as to where the m390 para will sit on your steel comparison thread?

My para2 is my favorite knife too. Just waiting for a cool sprint run to come along to give me an excuse to buy another one.

I can't wait for my M390 para2 M390 holds a toothier edge and is corrosion resistant im going to love putting it through its paces...
