For average customer difference between S30V and *other* steels is subtle (with Spyderco and their excellent HT). Every blade steel chip/roll/etc after contact with hard particles (sand when making feather sticks/batoning, eventualy hit rocks when you cut small tree/bushings blade-to-the-ground, metal staples when cutting boxes, etc) but S30V is wide available and nothing to worry about when you get few chips on it: just resharpen, for rare blades it is not so easyEvery blade steel must be sharpened or touched up time to time, so for this point of view I prefer steels with moderate edge retention and ease of sharpening: I prefer keeping sharpest edge with minimum maintenance task and there's S30V is the best suiting and widely available steelЖ just strop it once per week and it's ok. Of course IMHO

I prefer the Para 2 to my CRKs, primarily due to the superior ergos. It's much easier to deploy and fits the hands very securely and comfortably. And if you get one of the Sprints, the blade steel is much better.
The pivot is not as precisely machined like a Sebbie and it may need some adjustments to get it to your liking. But just about every non-CRK knives are like that.![]()
Yes, I generally agree. The differences between S30V and other more premium steels are subtle to most folks. My first Para 2 is the S30V version and it never felt less than awesome. But specifically, for the Para 2, there's CPM-M4 and CPM-S90V/CTS-20CP available as upgrades and I think they're well worth it.
if its 61 it will have same edge retention if its 60 it will have less. Regardless it will be more corrosive resistant ( not that I have seen any rust on my 20cp ,even after sweating bullets with it in my pocket) and a little less toughM390 is already taking preorders from bento...should be killer.. maybe even better than CTS-20CP depending on finished product
Hey Ankerson any speculation as to where the m390 para will sit on your steel comparison thread?
This is the one I use the most.
