I will agree with the original posters thought. It seems a bit mass marketed in that packaging. Some of the other Buck brand knives are only sold in nice rectangular boxes with a lifelong warranty. That is just the walmart edition that is being presented.
 
At my local blue store, they sell the Buck 119 and 110 in both blister packs and in boxes. The boxed ones come with a leather sheath, and the blister packs have a nylon sheath. I don't think they sell many knives (I bought a Buck Diamondback and the date stamp was from 6 years prior) so the boxed ones may be leftover from who knows when. I much prefer the boxes, myself.

Not totally correct, it's not just a "mart" thing. As well as the "mart's" I can take you to at least two major sporting goods chains, and a couple of nationwide hardware chain stores in my area alone that have all their Bucks (imports and domestic made) in the blister packs.
