Hi All,
Had a Deal with Pleconin(Robert Wharton) about a week ago and he is an absolute gentleman. Here's the story:
I was interested in a Rekat Sifu he had to sell about 2 weeks ago and he send me the knife via USPS Priority airmail (yes folks, they DO have this service to Malaysia and it only took 5 working days. Very impressive!) for inspection even before i pay him! What can i say? I'm all the way in Malaysia and he trust that i won't cheat him. The package arrived here and i found that the Sifu wasn't what i had expected. Don't get me wrong here, he described the knife's condition exactly in our corresponding emails before hand but it just didn't hit the right button. Anyways, i offered to return the knife via FedEx so he can receive it safely and fast. But Robert say i can have it for half the price since he didn't like it either and it would be a waste of money and time to send it back. I was thrilled with the offer and here is where the story sucks. Due to an emergency expenditure that my sis have because of college, i have to sacrifice the offer. I return an email to Robert the day after and he replied that i can keep the knife since he didn't want it anyway. WOW! NOW....CAN ANYONE MATCH THAT? I mean, by all means i will return the knife since it's the only right thing to do but because some of you might think it's a scam that i pull in hope that Robert would give up the knife eventually but it's not! I think what he did is great...just Great, mere words could not even describe it. A total stranger gives another stranger a knife half way across the globe without any strings attached....if only the world works that way!
To conclude the story, i've offered to help Robert to sell the knife in Singapore in my coming trip this weekend. I hope to sell the knife for him, maybe not as much as his original asking price but at least something in return. If i can't sell it, i'll consider this as the greatest gift for the whole 3/4 of the year 2000.......who knows, Robert might just be Santa in disguise.
Before i sign off, I like to make a bow to Robert and his generous ways!
Eric Wong.
