so im getting a new .22 just to have fun with. im pretty stuck on the new ruger sr22 pistol. any thought??

I like the new one also. I have a Ruger Mark III Hunter that I use for teaching and plinking...the dang thing is a PITA to clean and reassemble. The new one looks much more reasonable as far as field stripping and reassembly goes.

Forget it kid....you'll shoot your eye out..

(Sorry Beef, had to do it...BTW, could you scoot about 6" to your left?)

I have a Browning Buckmark Camper, pretty much stock besides I added a Hi Viz fiber optic sight. The thing is pretty accurate. I shoot license plates at 60 yards with it. Also, it's bomb proof. Not picky on ammo, plus, you don't have to clean it. Its had about 1800 rounds through it since the last time its seen any type of cleaning. Not on jame, FTF, FTE, nothing. It might see a light cleaning when I hit the 5,000 mark................................might............. :D

The Mark IIIs are a PITA with all the magazine crap you have to do. Good pistols, but a PITA.

May I add that the Sig Sauer Mosquito is a fun, and quality plinker. If you go Ruger, look into the integral suppressed models just for kicks. Of course those are special so wait period and $200 tax stamp apply.

That SR22 is a sweet looking plinker. I've got a Ruger Mark II and a Browning Buckmark. Both are fun to shoot and accurate but I'll mirror what the others said about cleaning the Ruger. Huge PITA.

Everything I have seen and read on the Sr22 makes it a pretty tough one to say no to. However it is hard to beat the ruger MKII and MKIII.

Works for me!!!

I've got an old 60s Ruger Mark 1, had it since I was 13, after countless bricks of Box Store ammo, (30,000-40,000 rounds), not a stovepipe, misfire or a problem in 38+ years, it's a tack driver and shoots like an extention of your hand, asa far as the thing bein' a PITA to clean, once ya get the sequence down it's really not hard to break down.

If ya check the gun shops ya could probably pick a newer one up for a couple hundred bucks, it'll last ya forever.

I love my Walther P22 but I spend most of my time plinking with my Ruger single six nowadays. The sr22 looks great though.

If you can find one, I recommend a Ruger Mark I or II (I don't like the Mark III version). Otherwise, go for the Browning Buckmark.

High Standard and Colt Woodsman for the not necessarily cheap vintage choice.

I love the single six. However I just picked up a single ten. All the fun of the single six with less reloading.

Do some research before you spend any money on a Mosquito. Shitloads of people have had problems. I LOVE Sigs, own several, and when they came out with a .22 that was a trainer for my p226, I couldn't buy one quick enough.

I've shot it a lot, but I don't think I've made it through a single magazine without a failure to fire (mostly) or feed problem (stovepipes). Ammo makes no difference,. When I contacted Sig about the constant problems, their response was; "Well, you need to put a thousand rounds of of CCI Minimags through it, break it in, and if you still feel theres a problem, get back to us. And make sure you use plenty of oil."

I have fired it more, but put it back in the safe for the most part. I don't think you should have to go through a thousand plus rounds to see if a firearm will go boom when you pull the damn trigger. My Ruger Government has been flawless as long as I've owned it, 20 plus years, but they are an absolute f*#ker to clean. Hard to go wrong with the Buckmark too.

my 2 cents...

Ahhhhh yes. I'm going to be picking me up a single ten sometime later this year. I about fell off my chair when they announced it. People was like, why are you so excited about that you've got a single six? And it's like yeah but this one goes to ten. Would have been a little cooler if they would have went all Spinal Tap with it and had it hold 11.

I was unaware of Mosquito issues since I had no real problem with it. I withdraw my reccomendation on the possibility of negatives. I have owned several various .22 pistols over the years, I much prefer a rifle for plinking. A 10-22 is a lot of fun. I believe the only .22 pistol I still have around is a Beretta. It is a bit ugly, and inexpensive, but good fun.
Of the .22 pistols I have had in hand, the Ruger 22-45 was a favorite.
